1974 VW Beetle "Karmann" ConvertibleThis 1974 VW model 1303 Beetle Convertible was built by Karmann (the same Company which built the Karmann Ghias). The model 1303 was introduced in 1972 and offered a 1584 ccm engine. a deeper windscreen. a padded dashport. a 4 spoke safety steering wheel and disk brakes on the front wheels. This car was first sold in California and spent most of its life in that dry climate. The paint is a Tangerine red with dark red vinyl interior and a black convertible top. The wheels are aluminum "Centerlines" to reduce the unsprung weight on all 4 corners. I just had a brand new windshield with new rubber seals installed. Also new are the fender piping rubber seals. the rubber moldings around the tail lights and the license plate light. The front bumper was rechromed and reassembled with a new rubber bumper strip. The speedometer reads 36165 miles. The previous owner states that the speedometer was not in working order for some time and the total mileage for the VW is around 80000 miles total. The same previous owner reports an engine and transmission rebuild during his multi-year ownership. This VW Convertible is a fun vehicle to own. It is very uncomplicated and inexpensive to operate and enjoy. The car starts easily and performs as a German built vehicle should. The value of the VW Beetle and specially the Beetle Convertible have been rising slowly over the years. Keeping the car in its present shape will ensure you of a lot of pleasure driving the car with the added knowledge of a steady rise in value of your investment.
