This 1977 Riviera has been owned by the same family for all of its life other than the last 6 months. It had been regularly serviced and lightly driven on family camping trips. I purchased the vehicle as an ideal restoration project. but have had a change of plans due to circumstances that have nothing to do with this bus. I did begin the restoration process by cutting the paint and waxing the vehicle. I was about to sand blast the bumpers and wheels. but figured I should keep it as original as possible for its new owner. I did replace the battery and the seal around the pop-top. The bus drives really well; brakes. transmission. drive train. everything mechanical is in good working condition. The previous owner installed a classic Blaupunkt stereo. I took the bus to a VW mechanic and asked him to give it the once-over. He reported back that the bus needs nothing. It is the original 2L engine. It starts on the first turn. runs smoothly. steers straight. strong brakes. and idles perfectly. The paint appears to be all original. There is some paint degradation on each of the sides of the bus. It is obvious in the photos. The previous owner put some house-number decals on the back of the bus "MY U4EA". I really love the attitude and the previous owners were great people with awesome energy. but early-on. made the decision to remove the decals. They must have been on the bus for decades and have left a subliminal "MY U4EA". I'm sure it can be removed with the proper solvent/compound and some elbow grease. The one photo shows the van before decal removal. The body. has some dents. most of which are straight forward. The driver's side front corner is the worst of the dents. One of the air cooler vents is slightly dented. Again. I have tried to illustrate the damage in the photos. The windshield and windshield seal will eventually need replacing. I do have the original louvered pull-down for the front side cabinet in the rear of the bus. It's in great condition. just needs to be installed. I also have a pair of rods that connect to the side of the top that hold a shower curtain. This bus would be spectacular absent the dents. It is an ideal. difficult-to-find. candidate for supreme restoration. The interior of the bus is 100% original. The headliner is near flawless. The fabric on all seats and beds is original and in great condition. Some of the vinyl trim around the cabinets has shrunk from being in a very dry climate for 38 years. I did have all the upholstery professionally cleaned. This bus is a candidate for the ultimate restoration. or may simply be enjoyed as-is. I have more pictures if need be. I do have this bus "For Sale" locally so I do reserve the right to sell it prior to the end of this listing.
