Description

This is a 1979 VW Super Beetle manufactured in November 1979. VW extended the model year because this was the final year of German production. The engine is a 1966 1300 single port on the top endwith a 1974 1600 dual relief block so this motor has the larger offset oil cooler & doghouse. The motor runs well with less than 10k miles on it. The trans upshifts fine but requires a little bit of a hesitation when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear. It does not grind &the trans doesNOT "pop out" of gear. I've taken care of most of the body rust & used matching paint but the car really needs a professional paint job. The soft top is about 5 years old. 3 of the 4 floor pan sections have been replaced. The major rust-thru areas are located inside the wheel wells & ahead of the floor pans underneath where the subframe makes a "T". There is also one rust-thru area inside on the lower driver's door. The brakes have newer shoes & hardware but haveolder brake drums. The rear shelf is well worn. Stopping is not on par with what disc brakes can do, o that might be something to get used to. This car was originally equipped with the dealer installed gas heater which I will include in the sale. Also included are the original front seat & shoulder belts. I have had the carsinceJuly of 2011& have onlyattempted to drive it on clear warmer days. I do not know thetotal mileage on the car as the speedometer was replaced. I can say that the vehicle was definitely well driven when I got it. There are minor things that do not work, ut nothing that affects drivability. This is NOT a show-quality car by any means, ut itis still a fun ride. The body shots of the car may look good, ut I would rate the car as being in "fair" condition. I have done my best to describe the condition of the car. Be cautious in your search for an older car. The failure rate of sales ultimately taking place on this website is quite high usually because the actual condition of the car was not as described or it was avoided altogether. Study the photos, articularly the rust-thruones & ask any questions. I do have this car for sale locally. FYI Haggerty says this car in fair condition should be insured for $8,300. Go figure! Thanks for looking.
