This vehicle has been my commuter since 2010. It has been very dependable and when service was needed, t was repaired with only VW parts. It is however time to let it move on to the next owner who will get many more miles out of it. It has the BEW Turbo diesel engine which does NOT use DEF fluid or have a particulate filter. The suspension and brakes are solid. I continue to drive it 100 miles to work every day.A couple of weeks ago the vehicle lost power. I figured it was just a clogged fuel filter but that did not solve the problem. Young VW diagnosed it as a bad vacuum actuator that keeps the turbo in bypass. In this instance VW recommends replacing the entire turbo. It is up to you whether you do that or try just replacing the vacuum actuator. They also said the transmission had a code about 2nd gear being out of range. All I can say about this is that the tranny has never even hiccuped before it had to work harder because the turbo wasn't helping. There are two glow plugs that need attention, he front window is cracked, nd two of the tires are worn to the wear indicators. I added a Panzer plate to the car when I bought it because I sometimes bottomed out and was afraid of cracking the oil pan. This plate kit ROCKS !anyways.......I continue to drive this car every day but somewhat slower up hill where it has trouble keeping up without the turbo. I replaced the factory beige fabric interior with a leather set from a salvage Golf. The front seats have heating elements and I bought the switches for the dash but I was not able to source a wiring harness to make them work. I kept a service bible from when I bought the car so any concerns about what has been replaced and when belt services were done can be seen. I also added factory fog lights in the front and rear, nd a european headlight switch. The headlight buckets are about a month old and the lenses are glass instead of plastic.
