2003 VW Jetta TDI -
Southern car, urchased in Alabama in 2007 with 113,000 miles. I am the third owner. This was my daily commuter until 18 months ago when I had an opportunity to purchase a Phaeton. Since that time we have used this vehicle at a vacation property in New Mexico, riving it only once or twice a month. We were not longer driving the car enough to justify, o we are offering it up for sale.
Major and recent services (performed by VW dealer or specialized independent mechanics):143,000 mi. Alternator165,000 mi. Clutch203,000 mi. AC compressor, erpentine belt215,000 mi. Timing belt, ensioner, ollers, ater pump, rakes (discs and linings)225,000 mi. Glow Plugs253,000 mi. Front struts, way bar links, heel alignment, oost pressure valve and vacuum line263,000 mi. Windshield washer pump264,000 mi. New Battery (purchased 6 mo ago @Wal-Mart), river side power window regulator
The good:ALH diesel engine -- considered one of VW's all time best along with the coveted 5 speed manual transmission. Never modified or chipped. Ran only on No. 2 diesel. Engine runs strong (cruise will hold 80 mph all day long - even in our Arkansas hills). Clutch / transmission shifts smoothly. Drives straight and tight. Good 75% tread tires (approx. 2 years old). Strong brakes. Clean inside and out. Cold air conditioning. Good sound system (CD, adio, assette). No "check engine" lights. Sunroof operates in all modes and does not leak. I've averaged about 44 mpg on my curvy, illy highway commute, ay in and day out (I tend to have a heavy foot). I have achieved 51 mpg driving across Alabama and Mississippi on the interstate at 65mph. My range is approximately 600 mi. per tank. I have title in hand, ll manuals, eys and major service receipts.
What needs a little TLC:Windshield is cracked on passenger side and at the rear view mirror. Not in drivers view so still legal in Arkansas, ut might be an issue in another state. Clear coat is oxidized in a small area of the front left quarter panel and at the drivers upper door window frame (not noticeable from 30'). A few small rock chips in the hood. and a few minor shopping cart scratches.Could use new floor mats (hole where driver's heel rests). Drivers seat is showing a little wear on the fabric. Front plastic bumper skirt is split and plastic shield below engine is missing due to hitting an armadillo (its black so not very noticeable). VW dealer checked ok and did not recommend replacing plastic shield.Passenger remote electric lock sometimes fails to engage/disengage (easy to manual override).Key batteries seem low ( easy to manual override lock/unlock).Head lining is starting to droop in some areas but the sunroof keeps this from being a safety issue.
This will make someone a good car. I can honestly say that this car has never left me stranded and has been one of the best I've ever owned. Within the last month it recently completed a 10.5 hr, 20 mile trip from Santa Fe, M to Fort Smith, R with absolutely no issues. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere however, ue to age, ts offered as is where is. Thank you!
