1972 Karmann Ghia
This 1972 VW Karmann Ghia has been modified with an Outlaw-inspiredbuild powered bya 1776cc enginewith Empi short-shifter and Empi exhaust. Purchased in 2015, what started as a PPI by VW specialist became a more serious refurbishment with the seller investing over $16k on the project. The car received new white paint, new red interior, carpet, dash top, and Nardi-style steering wheel. Some small finishing touches are still needed butthis is a coolKarmann Ghia build distinguished from other examples on the market.
The Ghia was given a driver-quality repaint inits pepper white color over a solid body. The cost was around $3k. Silver steel wheels were also repainted and all new weather stripping installed. The stock bumpers are missing and were not with the car when purchased.
Some minor fixes and adjustments are needed to bring the car up a notch like hooking up the fog lights and horn, adjusting the deck lid to lock properly, new headlight bucket installed (bucket supplied), and left turn signal fixed. I just installed a new antenna and will supply a passenger side mirror, missing in photos.
The interior presents well with new seat covers, and door cards re-covered in attractive brick red vinyl and new grey carpeting. The seat covers are OEM style padded heat-seam pattern and come with new 3-point retractable seat belts. The dash was painted to match the exterior and covered in a new red matching dash top.
The car has a few updates such as an Empi short-shifter, aluminum aftermarket fresh-air knobs on the dash, and chrome door handles. The rear seats were redone in the same material.
A period Blaupunkt radio is installed and working. An electric windshield washer was installed. Nardi horn button will be installed prior to sale. A new chrome brake parking lever comes with the car, but not installed.
This Ghia is powered by a 1776 cc replacement engine paired to a stock 4-speed manual. The previous owner said the motor was newer which the mechanic confirmed. The mechanic said he felt no compression/leak down test was necessary, so none was done. It has needed nothingother than a new alternator and oil service. The car runs well around town as well as at highway speeds and sounds great with its Empi exhaust.
Some work to the brakes and suspension were also done. Tires are not new, but all in good drivable condition withadequatetread left.
The Karmann Ghia will make a fun daily driver or weekend cruiser for the new owner with the opportunity of finishing it off to his liking. The car comes with a Clean California title in my name and a small collection of new parts.
