Description

We listed this beautiful car earlier, but for some reason it just didn’t gather a lot of attention, so we’re listing it again. This is a beautiful example of an original 1973 Karmann Ghia cabriolet. Immediately before our purchase in 1980, the entire body was stripped and meticulously repainted with a gallon of lacquer in Bahia red. We are the third owner and it had 36,000 miles when we purchased it. Very shortly after I purchased it, I noticed a very slight bubble developing on the top of the fenders at the headlights. We took it to a high end body shop which brazed steel patches and repainted the areas (no bondo!). To this date, the fender tops are still pristine (see photos).

As an original example of a Ghia cabriolet its condition is quite good. The floorboards and rockers are very solid. The engine & clutch were completely rebuilt at 75,000 miles with new cylinders, pistons, clutch plate, seals, etc. It runs very well. However, now at 77,000 miles, the interior could stand to be refreshed, although it is still quite presentable. The top exterior is showroom perfect, but the headliner could stand to be replaced. Along with the car, we have a Bentley service manual, aluminum wheel trim rings (not mounted in photos), and a car cover. So, that’s pretty much it. If you’d like to see a particular part of the car not included in the photos, let us know and we’ll try to get them to you. It is currently in the greater Boston area. We absolutely encourage anyone with an interest send us an email for an appointment to take a look. You will not be disappointed. We don’t use it much anymore and would like to pass it on to someone who will appreciate it, but please keep in mind this is not a fire sale, we expect a reasonable auction price for a car of this condition, or we won’t sell it.

Car is being sold "as is." Nonrefundable deposit of $500 as bank check must be received within 48 hours of purchase. Payment must be received within 7 days of purchase via bank check. Vehicle to be picked up by buyer within 14 days of purchase and will not be released until all payments have cleared. Buyer shall make all arrangements for pickup/delivery of car. Seller reserves the right to end auction early.
