The previous XC70 was derived from Volvo's S60.
The XC, hich stands for cross country, as styling cues that give it a rugged, ff-road appearance. It also sits slightly higher than the standard V70 wagon for increased ground clearance.

Exterior
The front of the XC70 features a new grille that's similar in appearance to the one on Volvo's XC90 SUV. The nose of the wagon is distinguished from the V70 by its bright fog light surrounds and dark bumper cladding.
Interior
Inside the cabin, he XC70 reflects clean, unctional Scandinavian design. The instrumentation is simple and attractive. The center console is extremely thin. The front seats provide excellent support, hile the 40/20/40 split-folding rear seat offers hauling flexibility because the backrests can be folded separately to create a larger load compartment with an entirely flat floor. The XC70 has a height-adjustable, ntegrated child booster seat. An extended inflatable airbag curtain provides extra protection for rear-seat occupants. The luggage compartment floor is equipped with aluminum rails and movable anchorage points to secure the load. Side panels also have built-in load anchorage eyelets for securing items. This car also has the power tailgate option.
Under the Hood
The XC70 has a 3.2-liter inline-six-cylinder engine that makes 235 horsepower. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission that features a manual mode for driver-controlled gear changes. All-wheel drive is standard. Hill Descent Control is designed to keep the XC70's speed at 6 mph when traversing challenging terrain.
Safety
Standard safety features include side-impact airbags for the front seats, ide curtain airbags that extend lower than before, nd an electronic stability system. Volvo's WHIPS technology is designed to cradle front occupants during a rear-end crash.
