1987 Volvo 240 DL wagon which I've owned since 2008. It's all original with the uncommon 5-speed transmission. It runs and drives well and it starts right up and can be driven daily. I would easily trust it across the country and back, owever, t needs a little tlc. The odometer stopped working at 231,050 miles and the tripometer button is missing. The odometer failed soon after I bought the car and considering it wasn't driven much for the previous two years prior. I would suppose I've put close to 40,000 miles on it since '08, t being a second vehicle, o the car has an approximate total of 270,000-plus miles all together.
In 2008 I installed a factory Volvo receiver-hitch for pulling a small 5x8 cargo trailer a couple of times. I had the clutch replaced, ew Michelin tires installed, rake pads installed, ew KYB shocks put on the rear, ransmission fluid changed, ew fan clutch and timing belt.
The brake pads and rotors were replaced again in 2014. The transmission has been serviced twice since '08 and it's now due for a new timing belt again soon. The a/c system was previously converted to R-134 and holds a charge for about 8 to 10 weeks at best. The engine-oil and filter are changed every 3500 miles and it does not leak or use oil between changes. Most everything works, ut I have pin-pointed a wiring short that causes the rear hatch accessories to stop working intermittently. It's at the hinge, f course. The heater works great, ut the fan makes a bit of noise which sounds like a dry bearing. The windshield was replaced by Safelite about 3 years back, ut it received a crack along the base from a pebble thrown up by a semi on the freeway about 6 months later. It does not obstruct the view for the driver or passenger.
The body is clean, ust-free and dent-free with exception to a couple of very small surface rust spots on both left door sills. The paint is in quite good original condition. The hood was repainted a long time ago and the finish is a bit dull. The hood will shine up, ut not as nicely as the rest of the car does. The interior is in good shape and not trashed like many I've seen. A professional detail would make it very nice and it's already pretty decent as it is. The headliner is complete and intact and dome-lights work. The driver's seat has some splits in the vinyl and is still very functional. There is no radio. The exterior left rear door handle is broken and needs a replacement. The driver's door exterior handle is sticky and hard to open when wet.
I purchased this wagon from the original family owners in Seattle during the Summer of 2008. The car has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, ut I replaced it with a 1984 Toyota 4Runner. It's an honest, sed Volvo that has not been driven but a handful of miles within the past two-plus years and needs some upkeep to begin using it again. I just haven't been able to bring myself to sell it because I frankly love the car.
The tags are expired and I can't afford to insure it any longer with two other vehicles and I'm selling my house, o it's time to pass it on. It has a clean Oregon title in my name and will make good transportation for someone. It is for sale as it is, here it sits. I may be willing to assist buyer in shipping the car domestically or overseas at buyer's expense.
