Description

1965 Volvo 122S 2 owners from new All receipts from new 4-spd with overdrive I sold this car here on eBay last month and am relisting it as a courtesy to the new owner. Marital pressures dictate that he must thin the herd. the car has been driven only about 100 miles and remains in the condition shown here. Although this transaction will be between the current owner and the high bidder. I will be happy to help with logistics and any shipping arrangements that may be needed. The car is currently in Cannon Beach. Oregon - about 80 miles from Portland. Up for bids here on eBay is this very well documented Volvo 122S. Bought new at Kimball Motors in San Luis Obispo California. the car remained with its original owner there until 2002. when it was sold to a Volvo enthusiast in Portland Oregon. The car comes with every service receipt from new as well as the original dealer paperwork and window sticker. This car is a textbook example of what happens when pride of ownership meets Volvo build quality. a west coast survivor car that's been cared for from day one. Click to enlarge any of the photos below. a link to a gallery of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. The car has had one repaint in its original color. it's to good driver quality standards but not quite show quality. On close inspection you'll find a few touched in chips and some small areas with fisheye here and there. The paint has good lustre and shine and overall presents very well. it's good enough for local shows but not so perfect that you'd be afraid to really get out there and drive it. The body on this 122 is very straight with no dents or areas of waviness. I have not detected any bondo anywhere on the body and the undercarriage is likewise solid and original. Panel fit is all good with consistent gaps. both doors close perfectly. Tires are quality Toyo radials with lots of tread. Hubcaps are original and show some shallow dents. all 4 wheels have been powder coated and look great. The side trim shows a few little dings. doing their job I guess. The bumpers have never been rechromed. they show a good amount of hazing but are straight and true. Lights and lenses are all good. the grill is undamaged and in excellent original condition. The only area of rust concern that I've found on the car is a small area of blistering on the driver's side rear wheel arch. visible in the 2nd photo below. This is the only problem area on the entire car. otherwise it's a very solid example. underside included. The original selling paperwork shows that the car was bought on 9-1-65 for $2618. about the equivalent of $20K today. All of the trim was off the car when it was repainted in 1998. you'll find no overspray issues anywhere. All of the weatherstripping was replaced at that time. All of the car's glass is original except for the windshield. which has one tiny chip. The anodized trim around the windows and along the drip rail shows some dings here and there. they're not perfect. Trunk contains the original jack and a classic Pirelli P3 mounted on the spare. The chrome on top of the trunk handle assembly shows its typical light pitting. none of the other chromed pieces on the car have any. All exterior lighting is working and all locks function as they should. Carpet was installed and the front seats were recovered in 1998. the rest of the interior is original and in very good condtion. Excellent back seat area. Door panels and hardware are terrific. Newer model retractable seatbelts have been installed. Dashpad has zero splits or cracks. All instrumentation works correctly as well as the lights. signals. heater. fan. horn. etc. The 5 digit odometer shows 07661. this could be 107K. 207K. 307K? We all know that these Amazons were made before the concept of planned obsolescence and will outlive us all. The 8-track player is still functioning and currently playing Roy Orbison. Headliner is in good shape with no stains or punctures. The motor was rebuilt in 1998 and runs excellent. At that time the transmission was overhauled along with the brakes. cooling system and some suspension work. The car starts readily and runs strongly. this is a nice driving 122. The ribbon speedometer was actually intended as a safety feature by Volvo - the more red you see the more caution you should excercise. The cars runs cool. brakes and handles well. tracks straight. and the overdrive transmission makes freeway driving a breeze. Floorpans and rockers are all original and just as nice as you'd want to find them. a standout example of Volvo's venerable Amazon series. Click here for a gallery of all of the enlarged images.
