A well maintained two owner 1994 Vovlo 940 Sedan with the Turbo option. This allows you to get the fabric seats with the turbo engine and stronger transmission. Fabric seats are much preferred here in the desert. Engine overheated at 178K and a new head. gasket etc. was installed. I have been driving since with no incident. Idles smoothly. shifts properly. and has been relatively reliable. The gas tank was replaced because it would not pass the evap test - had a crack in the tank (plastic!). The shifter was replaced at the same time. The rear main seal and other work was done during the 178K upper rebuild. Have driven it from Phoenix to LA several times in the summer and winter with no problems. The 165 horsepower turbo motor will perform well for you. once you understand the gearing sweet spots. Many people like these cars because the rear wheel drive and heavy duty B230FT engine allows for many mods. I'm told 200hp is possible without any internal changes. with a simple manual boost controller and waste gate. I have preferred to keep it stock and let someone else decide on that. It is a 21 year old car so there are some quirks you need to know about:1. The gas gauge is consistenly inaccurate. It is about 1/4 off. meaning when it is full it reads 3/4 and when it has about 100 miles left the light comes on. I have tested this extensively. and use the light as my trigger to get gas in 50 miles. 2. There is a trim piece missing on the passenger side. and evidence of some previous body damage. Look closely at the pictures and you will see it. Not disclosed by the dealer (!). 3. The driver's door handle likes to lock the door when you touch it. While I use this for a convenience. it can be very stressful the first time you do that and the keys are in the car (running. in the drive thru at Taco Bell. for example). I have a second key and tips to avoid this. Probably the door lock actuator but as you can see from the above work that has been done I got ** tired ** of taking it to the Indy shop for repairs. 4. The steering rack shows some play. and will need to be replaced if you plan to put lots and lots of miles on this (or make it a drifter). I have noticed no change over the last 4 years. the rack does not leak. 5. The passenger window switch will roll the window down. but not up. The driver control can bring it back up. so it is just a switch. I look on occasion for someone parting these out for a switch. but have not replaced it. 6. The clear coat has been cooked by the Arizona sun. The sides still look good and it may be possible to strip and replace the clear coat. but I think that's a slippery slope that leads to a paint job (more than the car is worth). 7. This is a rubber timing belt/interference engine design. The rubber timing belt gives it a very smooth idle and highway smoothness. but if the belt breaks you just bought a new head rebuild. The belt needs to be changed every 50K - this will need a new belt in 10K. The good news is it is easy to do. This car has an electric fan so access is vey good. The B230FT is considered one of the most durable engines Volvo ever created. Lots of forums on this. It's a very safe car. and reasonably easy to work on. It is a Volvo. so expect $45 rubber hoses from the dealer and stuff like that. Enjoy. and please ask any questions.
