Description

1985 BMW K-100RT in excellent condition. I bought this bike a few years ago because I wanted a project. When I purchased the bike it had a secondary shaft issue (common to the 85 K100s).

In addition to repairing the issue, did a VERY extensive rehabilitation of the entire bike. I have touched just about every single part on this K-bike. While I did not intend to restore this bike to showroom condition, wanted to end up with an awesome daily driver (it still has some scratches and character marks). I think that you will agree that I ended up with an outstanding example of the early K series BMWs. As you can see in the photos it is very clean and well sorted. These bikes are an absolute joy to work on and I have enjoyed every hour that I have spent with it. I find that I do not ride it much these days and it deserves better.

I replaced: the secondary output shaft assembly, lutch carrier, ear main seal, lutch and spring plate, ll of the hoses in the coolant system, ll of the vacuum lines, ll the rubber fuel lines, oth the front shock springs and rear shock (upgraded to Progressive), he brake rotors and pads (upgraded both to EBC), he rear brake master cylinder, he soft brake lines (upgraded to braided stainless lines), he tank filler gaskets, uel pump and grommet, aller windshield with vent, park plug wires and even the instrument cluster back lighting (upgraded to LEDs).

I rebuilt the front brake master cylinder, ad a local body shop refresh the paint on the tank, ide cases and front fender. I replaced the missing inner guards and parts inside the fairing system. I replaced literally dozens of gaskets, rommets, eals and plastic parts as well as ANY questionable or missing fasteners, crews and bolts. The headlight wire harness has been upgraded to support higher output bulbs (more light is better, ight?). I sent the fuel injectors to be serviced and made sure that the intake system was free of air leaks. I lubed all of the splines in the drive line with Honda Moly. All of the fluids are in great condition with low miles (including the fork oil) and all tune-up items have been done (new oil and air filters, park plugs, hecked the timing, ynchronized the throttle bodies). I spent hours and hours cleaning and repainting many of the parts on this bike.

When I bought this K100 it was said to have only about 46,000 miles on it but the original instrument cluster had been replaced, upposedly between 27k and 28k (common for these bikes, he originals had plastic gears that liked to fail) so I cannot verify it. I saw absolutely nothing in the engine to make me think otherwise (and I touched almost every part of the engine). The Bridgestone Spitfires have much of their tread left. The Corbin seat with removable passenger back rest is still in great condition. All of the locks are still keyed alike and I have two of the folding keys. I am including the owner’s manual, ool kit and battery tender that I received when I bought the bike. I even added lead shot to the handlebar to greatly reduce the vibration felt while cruising. I added an extension for the accessory power jack that reaches from the stock location to the tank bag. An UltraGuard cover is also included.

This bike runs very smoothly and strong. This bike pulls like a train! I have put a few hundred miles on this K100 since completing the work (I went for a 100 mile ride just a couple of weeks ago) and would not hesitate to ride it anywhere. Now that I have done all the work it is time for someone to ride this BMW as it was designed to be ridden.

This BMW K100RT is in excellent condition for a 30 year old bike but it is not perfect. I have done my best to accurately describe this bike and provide detailed photos. I am not aware of anything that this bike needs. Feel free to ask any questions before you bid. Sold as is, here is.
