Description

This 1998 BMW R1200C has been in my care since 2003, t has 19,xxx miles (up from 11,000 when I bought it in '03) and only 2 previous owners. If you are looking for a nice, 1200C that has been maintained meticulously and is in exceptional condition, his one should be at the top of your list.
Paint:
The original paint, oth on body and frame, s flawless.
Records:
Have original owner's booklet with dealer stamps from 0 to 11,000 miles
Have a file of receipts covering my period of ownership.
Maintenance:
Engine oil changed every 1000 miles with mobil-1.
Gear oils changed every 1000 miles with synthetics.
Brake and clutch fluid changed every 1000 miles.
Fuel filter changed at less than 1000 miles ago.
Air filter changed to K&N filter.
Sta-bil always present in the fuel since I drive this bike infrequently.
Leather seat and backrest were dyed once a few years back and are wearing nicely.
This one has the simplicity of no ABS, o heated grips.
Just spent over $500 on new AVON tires and super AGM battery ($200).
Upgrades:
Rear tail light assembly has been replaced with the new design that uses hidden screws.
Transmission and final drive have custom stainless fill plugs made in England.
Most fasteners have been changed to stainless.
Fuel line quick disconnect has been added to make tank removal easier.
Battery box is a custom fabrication in stainless as the originals tended to rust.
All cable wraps have been replaced with new ones.
Brake and clutch hoses have been changed to braided stainless.
Underside of fenders have been rhino-lined and painted to ivory.
Factory rusty brake rotor screws have been replaced by chrome plated screws.
The rear wheel has been replaced with a cast wheel from an R1200CLC.
Tool kit bracket changed from rust color to fresh powdercoat.
Turn signal lenses changed to clear with yellow bulbs. It is a goes well with the ivory color.
Peeling chrome issues that this model is famous for:
You won't find such issues here. This bike really sails ahead of the competition if you start looking at (and calculating the cost of) all of the things that usually need to be re-plated or replaced this model. 1). The front rim and hub were sand blasted and powder coated in 'silver sparkle' to match the frame. 2). Old rusty spokes were replaced with new stainless spokes. 3). The fork legs were stripped of the old, pider-cracked finish and completed in polished aluminum. 4). Brake and shift pedals were sand blasted and powder coated in 'silver sparkle' to match the frame. 5). Foot pegs were sand blasted and powder coated in 'silver sparkle' to match the frame. 6). valve covers started to shed their chrome and were replaced with new ones.
Flaws:
There is a dent and scratch in the right muffler that happened before my ownership. It is on the bottom half and not noticable from the top. I'm including in the sale a second muffler from a 7K mile bike that apparently sat out in the weather all it's life. It is a solid muffler but needs a polish job. These R1200C mufflers are stainless, ot chrome plated so it should buff up nicely. I was going to let the original wear out before mounting this second one, ut driving it only 1000 miles a year, t won't wear out anytime soon.
Conclusion:
This machine rides and handles like a new one; very comfortable and, t the same time, porty for a big cruiser. The lucky new owner won't have to do anything but ride this beauty for several years. So why am I selling? I have another one and also a new R9T and the fleet is getting too big to maintain all by myself. You can fly in and drive it home to anywhere. No test rides without the ca$h in my hand. More pictures can be seen on Sarasota CL.
Also throwing in a well-used shoei helmet if you like, he original rear wheel hub in case you ever want to build a spoke wheel for this machine, ND a full tank of gas. Hope to see it go to someone who appreciates this model and plans on long-term ownership. Don't be the guy who writes me and says "I'll give you $3000 right now". Please. I would rather keep it for another 12 years and then you'll wish you had bought one for 5K back when you could have.
