12/16/15 I have reduced my price. This isa lot of bike for the money. It is in exceptional condition for its age and runs excellent. Make me a respectful offer.
1978 R100RS. I believe I am the 3rd owner but do not know the history prior to the person I purchased it from. The frame VIN does fall within the range of MotorSport models but I don't know if this was one originally. It does have the correct black side covers for a MotorSport.
The engine VIN is 6160368 which I believe is a 1977 1000cc big carb engine and runs excellent! In fact it is probably the best running/strongest BMW I have owned. Very fast and smooth. Shifts through gears as it should. It does not show anysigns of abuse or being parked outside in the elements.Gauges are clean and not faded or discolored.
It has been painted all white at some point and the paint is in very good condition. Fairingdoesn't show any signs of previous damage.
Here is the good, he bad, nd the ugly:
GOODExceptional condition for a 41 year old motorcycleGauges work properly and look excellent- not faded or discoloredCables are all good and not crackedEverything works as it should- all switches, ights, larm, ornStartsinstantly, hoke works as it shouldRuns excellent- NO smoke at start, doesn't use oil, eems to be a low mile/strong motor, ery cleanTank inside is very clean, o problems/rustWindscreen is in excellent conditionWheels are in excellent conditionNo oil leaksNo fuel leaks- all hoses replacedrecentlyOriginal manual is hereOriginal tire pump is hereNo dents in tank or front fenderAll plastic- headlight cover, urn signal, rake light, ll very nice.
BADThe tires are about 5 years old, read is good and there are no weather cracks, personally do not ride on tires over 6 years old.Pin striping is not correctExhaust has some scratches and minor dings.Missing "R100RS" sticker on rear cowlingOne keyThrottle cable and choke boots missing at carbsBottom of seat is par/average for age- originalRubber around tool storage tub top Is in bad shapeMost tools- not complete set
UGLYThe seat has a small tear that has been repairedThe rear seat hinge is broke where it connects to the seatI have listed in detail everything I know about the bike to help you evaluate if this bike is for you. I am brutally honest and I am also very picky.Iassure you this isa veryaccurate and thorough description. You will have NO surprises. In the past couple of years I have sold 7 motorcycles (4 were "70's" era BMW's) The buyers have always told me without exception, he bike was better than they expected. This is the way it should be.
Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or if you want pictures of anything specific. I would be happy to do a "FaceTime" to help you make your decision.I have a video of starting the bike and doing a walk around so you can hear it run. Link below.
