This is one of about 1,600 R66's built between 1938 and 1941. Most were drafted into the German army, nd were lost during the War. This one was abandoned in Poland. The original frame and engine numbers were removed by the Poles, nd new numbers were punched in-fortunately not over the originals. These numbers are the ones on the California title. The original numbers were recovered chemically by the previous owner. The motorcycle was imported in 1999, nd restored two years later by the previous owner. He had the lower end of the motor rebuilt by a well known prewar BMW specialist. At the same time, he cylinder heads were fitted with new seats, nd R69S valves and springs were installed. After I acquired the motorcycle in 2012, overhauled the gearbox, nd sent the final drive to another BMW specialist, ho installed the correct prewar solo gears (10/36). I then replaced the high compression pistons the bike came with, nd installed a pair of lower compression items and a couple of solid copper head gaskets. The speedometer shows 7,032 kilometers-all I which I put on the bike. It's a strong runner, nd is thoroughly debugged. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have, nd can provide the contact information for the previous owner, nd the BMW specialists who have worked on the bike while I've owned it. I have records for all the work that was done-except for the early work that was done when the bike was restored in 2001.
