Description

Feast your eyes on this extremely rare Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) 1962 A65 Royal Star. This is the first years of the unit twins from BSA that includes the A50 (500CC- 722 units) and the A65 (650CC-1846 units). All frame numbers in 1962 began with A50-101 and ended with A50-2287. The engine numbers for the A65 began with A65-101 and went through A65-1946. The TOTAL twin production for 1962 was 2186 bikes. This motorcycle is Frame Number A50-1020 and Engine Number A65-947. which indicates it came out the middle of the year. In addition to all numbers matching. this is just a superior-running motorcycle. I purchased the bike about 5 years ago with all original parts from a gent in Salt Lake City. Utah. who had the bike rebuilt by a British bike specialist and had ridden it for about 100 miles. I stored it in a climate-controlled garage for two years while deciding what to do with it and after realizing that I had never seen another correct 1962 BSA. I decided to restore it to original specs with matching numbers. Nothing was spared. The bike was outfitted with Wassel rims. stainless spokes and new English Dunlop tires and all were sent to Buchanan in California. All the nuts and bolts were cad plated. Chrome was sent to Brown Decorative Plating in Kentucky and it is beautiful. Don Hutchinson mixed the flamboyant candy apple red paint and it is applied over a gold metal flake base with hand striping. The frame is painted in urethane gloss black. Paint work was done by Culp's Specialties in Louisiana. All rubber parts were replaced. The alloy engine cases are polished to a bright shine. The extremely-rate. incredibly-hard-to-find headlight bucket. which was used ONLY in 1962. is correct on this motorcycle! All electrics work perfectly and the bike is a blast to ride. Since I intended for this to be a riding bike. I did put on an electric ignition for easier starting. The original monobloc carb is overhauled and operates as it should. I have put about 200 miles on this bike---it can sit for a month or so. but it will still light off on the second or third kick. (PS- I store all my bikes with aviation fuel-the gas tank looks new inside). As mentioned. this bike along with the others in my collection. are kept in a climate-controlled garage. I have the original owner's manual (not a copy) and a Cramer Cycle magazine from Nov. 1962. which will be given to the successful bidder. There is not a chip. flaw or ding anywhere on this motorcycle and it looks to be IDENTICAL to the pictures in the 1962 magazine. I have $15. 00 invested in this bike and believe me. it shows. The motorcycle has been featured in numerous bike shows including an art gallery exhibit in Shreveport. La. If you are looking for a rare motorcycle. this bike is for you. If you love BSAs. this bike is for you. If you want the absolute best of both worlds. do not let this bike pass you by!Original mileage is 25. 12. The title is in my name in Louisiana. All photographs were taken April 10. 2015 (additional photos can be furnished upon request).
