Description

Incredible opportunity to own a real NCR. Stumbled on this bike. along with a 1974 Ducati 750 SS. while at a Mostra Scambio. in Rimini. Italy December 2001. Had gone over with the intention of buying 40 to 50 small displacement bikes to bring back in a container and had the misfortune?? of finding the SS as well as this bike and spent all my money. My primary goal was to purchase the Super Sport. but they came as a package deal. It was initially descirbed to me as a Ducati ex works bike ridden by some guy named Saltarelli which meant little or nothing to me. Have since found that it is indeed the real deal. First. it does have a Daspa frame rather than the Verlicchi frame which Ducati was using at the time. I took the bike down to my mechanic down in Rochester. MN. . Tim Fruitiger. at Wheels Unlimited to have it gone through and was informed the bike was as far from stock as possible. It did have a cracked head and needed other work. but it has all been taken care of. Have also found that Carlo Saltarelli was a factory test rider. as well as a racer. during this time period. NCR was all but the corse division of Ducati at this time and am stongly inclined to believe that they had a hand in the engine despite not having sand cast cases. I have an Italian magazine article that this bike is featured in that substantiates these facts. As best I can tell. since the article is in Italian. it primarily deals with authenticating Daspa framed bikes and this one is used as an example of the real deal. The article also confirms that it is an ex Salterelli motor. It runs extremely strong. Had initially wanted to remove the electric start. but we had found that with the increased compression and displacement there is virtually no way to start it with the kick start. I will be including all the bits and pieces necessary to convert it to kick start only if that is what the buyer wants. The windsceen was damaged when I had the bike shipped back from Ital and have replaced it with a screen from Gustafsen plastics and I am not terribly pleased with it as at appears too bulbous. I will be more than happy to split the cost of a new screen if the buyer wishes to ship the fairing to Leif at Gustafsen to have a screen custom made. I am also willing to overnight a pre-purchase package with the Italian article to SERIOUS parties. Please contact Dave at 651 492 2522. Tim Fruitiger. the mechanic who worked on the bike. can be reached at 507 288 5630 and would be happy to answer any questions you might have. Would suggest Forward Air for shipping as I have had very good luck and will deliver to their port. Am reserving the right to end the auction early as it is being offered for sale in other venues. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
