1996 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic - FLHSTC

Up for auction is a strong-running. 1996 Harley-Davidson Heritage Soft Tail Classic. This bike was purchased new at Dudley Perkins H-D in San Francisco by a family friend for an out-the-door price of (gulp) just-under $22. 00. including $5k worth of initial customizing by the dealer. The original owner had the bike until he sold it to relatives of mine (also in San Fran) in 2002. It made its way to me last year and. although I collect bikes. it’s just not my style. so I am letting it go to a new home. All told. the original owner would ultimately spend $34k on this puppy. I have a three ring binder of all receipts and documentation back to new. The bike comes with its stock soft saddle bags and mounts. as well as a studded pillion seat. I took them off because I liked the cleaner look. This is a great bike for someone that wants to get into big frame Harleys without spending a fortune. This bike is in excellent mechanical condition and has very low miles. so you can ride it and enjoy it right away while you sort out some of the cosmetic issues over time. Condition:Mileage is original and just-under 8. 00. This bike pulls like a freight train thanks to the well thought out engine upgrades to the original 1340cc v-twin. It also starts easily. idles beautifully. shifts and stops as it should. The only major downside to all those years in San Francisco is pitting on most of the chrome surfaces due to fog/condensation. I have tried to show photos that typify the pitting. such as the photos of the headlight nacelle and of the lower fork stanchion. Fortunately. chrome parts for these are fairly cheap now and who knows. maybe some of it will polish out. The custom paintwork is still very nice. with only a few chips/scratches. the biggest of which is on the front edge of the left tank where the windshield frame has scratched the paint (an easy touch-up and in a place where it’s not easily visible). The Dunlops tires are in very nice condition. although the white walls have turned dull. The brake light is not working. but I assume it’s a bulb. I replaced the starter clutch last year. I have tried to describe any major issues as best I can. and provide detailed photos as well.
