Description

Hey. /p>I am offering for sale my 1973 AMF Harley FLH. Shovelhead. This bike has a lot of history. I am the third owner ( as far as I know) the second owner was my older brother who died of respiratory failure two years ago. He actually quit riding due to bad knees back 2009. and gave me the bike at that time. This bike survived 5 mariages and a trip to Sturgis back in 1979. It was manufactured the year that AMF rescued Harley. Enough said about that. Here are the percs:My brother had the bike torn down back in 2006. The Frame was sandblasted and powder coated. The gas tank and fenders as well. He had the cylinders bored to . 30 over! This made the bike about 1300 cc's or so. When I got control of the bike back in 2009. I had the lower end re-done. This included 1500. 00 worth of new crank shaft. fly wheel assembly. hardened oversize valves. ( so you can run regular). and an S&S Carb. I also rebuilt the front forks. Since I like riding on the freeway with other newer Harleys. I installed a 48 tooth rear sprocket. to give the bike a cruising speed of about 70mph. I also installed a primary belt drive at that time. This is a modern Shovelhead. tender lovingly cared for!! As you may notice. the Rocker covers and cam cover are polished aluminum. The rear banana caliper as well. This is not due to special polishing. but rather. This Is The Way The Bike Has Been Kept! And that is for so long now. I cant even remember when they were dull. !! The seat is original. but the vinyl cover was replaced some years ago. There is a slight blemish on it from an over zealous trouble light. but other wise it is fine. I am currently running points on this delightful vehicle. WHY? Because if you run electronic ignition. you don"t get the same Giddy-up sound that these bikes were known for. And actually. I think the mechanical advance works better with points. making the bike slightly faster. So here is the deal. Please think about it. before you bid. Most people don't realize if you renig on a bid. and you are the winner. It cost me $125. 00 to re-list! And I have to wait 2 weeks to do it!This is one of those "Start and Ride Bikes" It needs nothing! To give it a good send off. I just replaced the rings. and seals. The bike is clean. and well maintainedI believe that a Classic Shovelhead should be ridden. not hidden!!This bike turns heads where ever it go 's. New Harley riders envy the nostalgia. (something they can't get)The actual mileage is around 50K. as far as I can tell. The speedometer reflects the total mileage since the new crank and fly wheel assembly were put in. If you are looking for a museum piece. sorry this is not it. Bike comes complete with minor scratches and flaws. ( not enough to really photograph)As I've told my friends. It is not a show bike. But a bike to show off!!Happy bidding. I will need a 250. 00 deposit with paypal with in 24 hrs from the winning bidder. and pick up with in two weeks. (or no sale)Don't even think about having it shipped. as the shippers work when I do!Oh yes. . The reason why I am selling it. is because I want to build from scratch a "Captain America Pan Head"I can't keep all my toys. So maybe this one can be yours!!And yes of course. the motor number and frame match. On Apr-15-15 at 17:20:36 PDT. seller added the following information:4/15/15. By the way. The Drag pipes have been tuned. (Old School). If you are seeking an original cross over exhaust. I will toss that in. along with the fish tail straight pipes. if the highest bidder exceeds reserve by $350. 00 or more. This will include brackets and hardware. After market mufflers aren't much to look at. but you can have those too.
