Ready to ride? This is a good bare bones bike to get you out there. It's a 1988 Harley-Davidson Sportster that I picked up in Florida last fall to fix up and resell. I bought it off a pawn shop in Jacksonville; the proprietor didn't know anything about the bike. It did not run. and the transmission was stuck in gear. I took the transmission apart and found that it was only the shifter that was broken. I had it welded. put it back together. and the transmission shifts great. I put in a new battery. and the motor wouldn't crank over. So. I rebuilt the starter. After rebuilding the starter. I cranked it over and checked compression. which was good. Rebuilt the carburetor. and the bike started right up and ran like a top. I've also replaced all the cables and front brake line. I rebuilt the front end. and put on new tires. I had a friend of mine repaint all the sheet metal a candy red and black metallic. I also painted the front forks and the rear fender struts silver. I put it all back together. got the lights all working and got it PA safety inspected (until 9/15). The bike is now good to go. I've ridden it about 80 miles so far. and I've got to say. it runs too good to be an 883. I think it's been bored out to a 1200. but I'm not going to take it apart just to check. There are a few scuffs and scrapes. namely the front master cylinder and mirrors. And. some of the gaskets weep a bit. If it wasn't broken. I wasn't going to fix it. Everything you need to ride is there. Now the fun part; if you win this auction. please pay the 500 deposit through pay pal and pay the remainder in cash when you pick it up. It will be pick up only. or you arrange to have it picked up. I can't deliver it. If you must pay by check. it must me a cashier's check. and I hold the bike until the check clears. If paying with check. I must also get a copy of your drivers license and another form of ID to be on the safe side. No refunds and no returns. Remember. the bike is 27 years old; it is being sold as is.
