Description

Thought this day would never come, ut I'm selling my flathead, lain Jane, o move forward with other projects and rebuild my business. I've owned this rare, ast model year, 948 Harley UL motorcycle for many years, nd have ridden it from Florida all over the USA, ncluding trips to California, evada, hio, ew York, nd Sturgis. I've never had mechanical problems with it except a punctured innertube in Utah, nd a blown head gasket in Deadwood, outh Dakota (due to it having 45-inch head bolts instead of big twin). I replaced the head bolts, nd it has performed flawlessly, eing my daily rider. Plain Jane was photographed in Sturgis by Jeff Cochran, nd featured on the cover of Cycle Source magazine for the November 2008 issue. The bike is a 1948 Harley-Davidson UL flathead, 4-cubic inches, ith tank shift 4-speed Harley gearbox. Harley-Davidson only produced 970 UL models in 1948. Engine VIN is 48UL1604, ood numbers, ith matching belly numbers. Cases and cylinders are beautiful OEM H-D, he aluminum cylinder heads might be aftermarket. The title is a clear Florida title. Carburetor is a perfectly working, nd correct Linkert M-51L with Landstrom bomb deflector. I have an oil cooler on the engine, ince I've ridden it so much in warm climates. Frame is 1948 Harley rigid, nique to late 1947 and this model year, ince Harley did not produce the Knucklehead in 1948. Springer is OEM Harley-Davidson inline, think 1940-1946, ith original ride control. Gas Tanks are OEM Harley 1946 big twin flathead tanks. Dash base is OEM Harley 1940-1946, peedometer is 1948. Mileage reads 61,896, ut the speedo quit working years ago. Wheels are OEM Harley-Davidson/Kelsey-Hayes star hub, ith vintage wheel discs. Brakes are OEM Harley-Davidson. Oil tank is OEM Harley Duo-Glide. Handlebars and risers are vintage Flanders. The bike used to have an open chain primary on it, ut I replaced the chain with a 1.5x8mm belt inside tin primary for ease of riding. The generator is Cycle Electric 12-volt, hich is the only way to go if you want to really ride. Seat is a custom leather seat by Adam Croft. Foot boards are OEM Harley-Davidson 1940-1945. The list of parts on the bike that are not OEM Harley or vintage accessories is short: headlight (repro Cycle-Ray), gnition coil, rimary belt drive, enerator, ear fender, oot pedals, nd drag pipes that I made. Auction winner gets the bike as it looks in the last eighteen photos, ith tin primary, o spotlamps (I gave them to my brother), nd both wheels with disc covers. The first six photos are old shots of the bike during rides to California, evada, nd Arizona. If you want to see video of me riding this bike from Florida to California, oogle "Billy Lane Buck Cherry Video". Bike starts on the first kick, nd runs so good that I can start it by hand. When I had the top end off in South Dakota, he cylinders and valves looked really good. I've never had the engine apart, ince it has never caused me trouble. It's a great machine, nd it is the real deal. Motorcycle may be picked up in Ormond Beach, lorida. I will hold it for you through Daytona Biketoberfest October 15-18. International bidders, will help you get this motorcycle crated for shipping, t your cost. Winner, lease wait for me to contact you before making payment. I will accept a $1000 deposit via PayPal, ut require a cashier's check or cash for the balance. Trust my 100% positive feedback.
