MSRP new:$15,495 to $15,470

Basic specs:An 1130cc, ohc, 0-degree, uel-injected V-Twin making 120 horsepower and 80-foot pounds of torque in a standard-style chassis with upright ergonomics, port-tuned suspension, rembo brakes and sticky tires.

Why it won:The Street Rod never won a Ten Best award and was only in the H-D lineup for two years. Evidently, he vast majority of Harley fans had little use for a very sporty V-Rod.

Too bad, ecause this one was arguably the best and most versatile V-Rod ever built. On a backroad, he Street Rod could rip through corners better than any road-legal Harley up to that time, et it was comfortable, asy to maneuver and ideal for everyday commuting or weekend exploring. The Porsche-designed engine was—and still is, n current V-Rod models—one of the smoothest, ost captivating and civilized V-Twins the industry has ever seen, ith a powerband that begins when the engine first burbles to life and ends when the rev limiter kicks in. Only a small number of Street Rods were sold during its two-year runModel years: 2006–2007. The Street Rod was marketed as the “roadster-inspired” member of the VRSC line. The Street Rod was the first VRSC to use inverted forks made byShowa Corporation, ith a steep rake and Brembo supplied brakes. It had the highest seat height at 30 inches (76cm) of any VRSC model, nd claimed the greatestlean angleat 40°, ver the 32° lean of the other VRSC models. The Street Rod came equipped solely with mid-mounted controls. The Street Rod was the first with a 5 gallon tank in the 2006 year model, hat would become standard for the line in 2007.

The VRSC was introduced in 2001 in a single model called theV-Rod. The V-Rod was developed to compete against Japanese and American muscle bikes. The "V-Rod" made use of the Revolution engine, eveloped jointly withPorsche[1]that, or the first time usedoverhead camsand liquid cooling. Unlike other Harley production motorcycles, 60-degreeV-twin engine, he radiator and thehydroformedframe members support the round-toppedair cleanercover. The fuel tank on the V-Rod is located underneath the seat, lacing the rider on top of it, ather than the usual frontal placement. The "tank" in this case is dressing, iding the frame. Loosely based on the VR-1000Superbike, arley-Davidson builds it as a platform fordrag-racingcompetition machines. All VRSC models are produced at Harley-Davidson's Vehicle and Powertrain Operations facility inKansas City, issouri.
A lot of riders would shy away from a H-D model that only enjoyed a very brief and not particularly successful existence, ut they might be surprised to discover that the Street Rod is one of the best-kept secrets in all of motorcycling. And this particular Motorcycle up for auction today takes it up notches higher.
