1976 Honda GL1000 1st Generation Gold Wing8400 Miles - Museum Level PreservationYes. the Gold Wing was born into this world naked. This is an outstanding example. The Candy Antares Red is a very deep red. It suits the bike well and is an excellent offset to the polished aluminum and chrome shiny bits. Aren't these engines stunning to look at? The naked platform really shows off the mechanicals. A 1st generation GL1000 sits in the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan. It is part of the "Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology" installation. No surprise there. The project was meant to create a new market and set a new standard. There were big rattling cruisers. there were eager sport screamers. and smallish weekend tourers. but there weren't any land yachts on 2 wheels of this magnitude. Imagine it's initial impact -- wow!Start with a low mileage well preserved gem of a motorcycle and make sure you pay attention to details. It's a winning combination. This bike received a gentle restoration about 5 years ago. It is very sharp from tip to tail and top to bottom -- Engine -- I could look at this engine forever it seems. You can certainly see that Project 371 were careful students of BMW Motorrad (as well as others). It's rare to find a Gold Wing with the polished aluminum intakes and primary covers still shining. It's a testament to careful ownership and a bit of TLC. This one is super tidy -- Odometer just turned past the 8. 00 mark. It was a nice weekend. what can I say? If you've owned a Honda from this era. you know gauges typically fade from sun exposure. not the case here. The gauges and lenses match the level of detail of the rest of the bike. There is a bit of fading in the chrome at the bottom of the rear fender (see pic 3). The chrome on the "pea shooter" ends of the pipes shows some wear. That's about it. Outstanding condition overall. - The seat is like new. There is no degradation of the foam or seat cover. It feels like you're sitting on the bike in the showroom circa 1976. Nice long seats like this are still very practical and comfortable. --Driving Experience --I've had quite a few CB's (of all sizes). I don't have a great deal of experience with big cruisers. They way this bike combines low end torque. smooth acceleration and effortless cruising at speed is impressive. It's no wonder Gold Wing owns the record for longest production run in automotive history. Honda reached far on this one and nailed it. It was a classic from the moment it carried it's first rider across vast expanses of terrain. Questions. Bidding.
