The starting bid minimum is $1,999.00. There is No Reserve for this auction. The successful bidder wins the motorcycle and all additional items described below.
OWNERSHIP HISTORY
I purchased the bike new on 5-9-1991 from Statesboro Motor Mart for a grand total of $4354.70. (I still have the receipt.) Since then, o one has ridden it but professional technicians and myself. The bike has been garage kept and sparingly used for the last 24 years. Its current mileage is 11,943 and the mileage will probably be right around 12000 at the time of sale. I am selling it at this time only because of orthopedic issues that possibly could be worsened by riding.
CONDITION
This bike is truly in exceptionally good condition for a 1991 motorcycle. Examine the pictures closely and please send me any questions that you have BEFORE bidding. I will try to post an answer within a few hours. All known flaws are disclosed next. Of course, his is an “as is” sale with no warranty. References to pictures by the order in which they appear are given as Pic1, ic2, tc. Condition: The BAD
Flaw1: I noticed while washing the bike yesterday that the piece of rubber on the back of the tachometer is torn. It could be replaced or fixed with the right adhesive. Look closely at the middle of Pic15. Some of the rubber on the bike (handlebar grips, oot peg rubbers, tc.) is 24 years old and shows some wear and weathering.
The next 2 flaws resulted from the one and only time that the bike was on its side. It happened about 15-20 years ago when I drove the bike into the brown pump house barely visible at the extreme top of Pic7, urned off the engine, nd dismounted on the left side. Q:What important step did I skip? A:Putting down the kickstand. The bike fell, inning me between it and the concrete floor. This is referred to below as the "Kickstand Incident".
Flaw2: The Kickstand Incident caused a crack in the left plastic panel shown in Pic16. It starts at the base of the "5" decal and goes down. You would not notice it when the panel is on the bike. I did a repair at the time on the inside of the panel to stabilize the crack using some sort of epoxy, ith the inside repair shown in Pic17. This panel is now stronger than the undamaged one on the other side and the crack is stabilized.
Flaw3: The Kickstand Incident also caused the gear shifter mounting bracket to bend in slightly towards the engine. I compensated by bending the shift lever out slightly. This is very hard to notice but best seen in Pic5.
The fall also broke the clutch lever, ut it was replaced with a new one (genuine Honda part). Flaw4: Slight fading/hazing of paint on some of the plastic body work. See Pics7,18. Flaw5: Some pitting of chrome on backs of mirrors, auges and gas cap. See Pics8,11,14. Flaw 6: About 15 years ago I stripped out the threads of the drain hole in the oil pan and had my Honda dealer install a helicoil. There have been no issues since then and the engine was never low on oil when the hole was stripped. Condition: The GOOD Except for the above mentioned flaws, his bike is in truly excellent condition. The bike is cosmetically beautiful and the tank (except for pitting on gas cap) looks like new, ith no dents or dings. The seat is in excellent condition with no rips or tears in the vinyl. Mechanically, he bike is fantastic; the engine does not burn oil or leak oil. All electrics work perfectly. Noteworthy recent maintenance includes: All new turn signals: I replaced all turn signals about a year ago, sing non Honda parts, ut they look identical to the original and seem to be of higher quality. [Interesting side story for mechanics: I had a problem with a front end shimmy that occurred right around 52 MPH. It was a complete non-issue unless you took your hands off of the handlebars. I tried various remedies through local dealerships, ncluding a new tire, ew wheel bearings, tc. Nothing resolved the problem. I was about to replace the steering head bearings, ut first, decided to replace the turn signals, hich had developed very weathered and droopy stems. Instantly the shimmy vanished. So what happened? The weak turn signal stems allowed some type of resonance to occur at around 52 that caused the turn signals to wobble wildly, hich then caused the shimmy. Amazing. No mechanic around here could remember seeing this solution to a shimmy problem before. To be clear, he shimmy issue is now completely resolved.] I rebuilt and synchronized the carbs about a year ago, s it had never been done in 20+ years. The engine has never run better.I replaced brake fluid and installed SS brake line about a year ago. See Pic18.
The tires have much tread life left (See Pics 7,13); they were replaced a few years ago and probably only have about 500 miles on them. Only premium oil and filters have been used. Mostly synthetic oil has been used and changed frequently. Oil brands include Honda, obil One and Amsoil; oil filter brands include Honda and K&N. EXTRA FEATURES
#1 The bike has a side stand and the optional Honda center stand. I bought and installed the center stand myself. Pic2 shows a small part of the center stand right under the exhaust. #2 The bike has a luggage rack and small bag (lunch box sized) for the rack. See Pics2,6,22. #3 The bike has a small windshield that is in excellent condition. Pic22 shows the shield, uggage bag, nd luggage bag strap. #4 The bike has its original owner’s manual and tool kit. See Pics20,23. I am also throwing in the (used) maintenance manual for Nighthawks shown in Pic23. #5 Am including a (used) Battery Minder (Pic24) for the installed charging cable shown in Pic4. The system is demonstrated in Pic19. #6 Am including a few spare parts in Pic21.
