Description

No garage queen. my 1974 MT250 is sorted and ready to either ride or do a cosmetic restoration. I started with a low mileage. clean bike that featured a few tasteful 1970's improvements. I then took the bike apart down to the bare frame and rebuilt or refreshed everything. The motor has been rebuilt and updated by Klemm Vintage in Arizona (http://www. klemmvintage. com/). At a cost of over $1000. the motor has a fresh top end. crank seals. and has been gone through from one end to another. Klemm also reshaped the combustion chamber so the bike will run well on modern gas (which has a lower octane rating than the gas these bikes were originally designed to run on. Check out http://www. klemmvintage. com/91oct. htm). I upjetted the carburetor so the bike will run on 91 octane California gas. The original locks were no good so I located an expensive NOS matched set of ignition. fork and seat locks. I installed hard to find. correct universal trials pattern tires. along with a new seat cover. battery. steering head bearings. chain. brake shoes. fork seals. air filter. petcock gaskets. and scads of little bits. The exhaust was clogged with soot so I had it boiled out. The oil injection reservoir had goo in the bottom and the hoses were crusty. I cleaned everything out and installed new oil lines. The injection works great and is much less hassle than premixing gas. The gas tank has very good original paint and is clean inside. The stock points ignition works well and the bike generally starts in a couple of kicks. The tachometer and speedometer work fine. as do all the lights -- even the turn signals. The original headlight. taillight. and turn signal lenses are all there and in good shape. MT250s share many components with Honda MR250s and CR250s of the same period. My MT250 was improved in the 1970s with MR250 alloy rims for quicker handling. It also has genuine OEM CR250 shock absorbers. These provide a bit more ground clearance and a much better ride. I had the units on my bike rebuilt and the perform like new. My MT250 also features a nifty homemade rear luggage rack made from a Yamaha endure bike rack. This bike is easy to maintain and great fun to ride. with a nice torquey motor. quick dirt bike handling in the corners and decent brakes for what it is. It is not as fast as a CR250 of course. but will easily pull freeway speeds. As the bike is now it should be good to go mechanically and electrically. Cosmetically the paint is in good shape but what little chrome there is could be redone. The Honda MT250 was Honda's response to enduro bikes by Kawasaki. Suzuki and Yamaha. such as the AT1. DT1. TS185. nbsp; TS250. Bighorn. and so on. There are very few nice MT250s left now though. since most of them were used off road. My bike is currently registered in my name here in California. with its original blue license plate. I cannot ship my MT250 but I would be happy to coordinate with you or your shipping company as need be. I am also listing my bike locally and reserve the right to end this auction early. So. bid early. bid often. or hit Buy It Now. Thanks for checking my Honda out.
