1974 Penton Jackpiner Very original condition showing little wear. I partially disassembled the bike to inspect. What I discovered is that cylinder is standard bore with original Mahle piston. Bore is smooth with no marks. piston rings gap is within tolerance. Crank spins smooth and free. I drained gear oil and it looked like new. Inspected carburetor and found it to be very clean with no wear marks on slide or bore. Kicking engine over Motoplat ignition produces a weak looking spark and I can not get engine to start or even try to fire. I did remove flywheel and looked at stator for corrosion but none found. Ignition timing was checked and found to be correct. My opinion is this bike will need a working Motoplat ignition to run. Another option would be a new PVL ignition. The bike is in very nice condition. All original components. Fork tubes are perfect with no rust or scratches. Alloy wheels are in great condition. Original fenders with no cracks. Original Barum tires look almost new with no weather cracking. Airbox is fiberglass with no cracks and all threaded holes good. Seat is original fiberglass pan with firm foam and perfect original seat cover. Rear shocks are Konis in perfect condition with original fabric covers. Headlite is original with correct switch and wiring. Chrome ring is dull with surface rust. Leather tank strap and tool pouch in good original condition. No tools in pouch. The gas tank has a pin hole on left side above Penton stripe and has leaked enough to damage paint. I will include a smaller (thinner) mx tank in the sale. The paint is original and in great shape. although it is a darker shade of blue. The exhaust pipe is solid and dent free at the header. it has been bent towards rear where it exits the fiberglass side panel. This area could be straightened with out too much trouble. An original pipe in better condition would be hard to find. Engine cases are magnesium and have no corrosion damage. Chain. sprockets. and chain guide have very little wear. This bike would be very nice and original with a little work. or would be a great core bike for a full restoration. Bike is sold with bill of sale only.
