1986 Maico 500 Scrambler

Original and mostly complete. Looks to be all original except missing tank. Tank in photo is from a water cooled '86 and obviously does not fit! In very good condition for this vintage and type of bike. This bike came from a restoration shop that is no longer in business. The bike was raced until 2000 at which point it required a new piston and the rear brakes needed to be rebuilt. It sat in a garage since then and the pipe, ank, ear brake parts and some nuts bolts and brackets were lost. A correct pipe was located but the proper tank was not yet purchased. Also included is the original plastic side panelsin decent shape. All basic replacement parts for Maicos areavailablefor years from 1956 to 2015. The engine will require a complete rebuild.
Maico was the master of big bore MX bikes. They were the only ones that made a reallyreliablebig bore air cooled two stroke. One reason for that is they startedfirstby making the infamous 501 in 1970. 1986 was the last year of the air cooled Maico and the last year bikes were manufactured in the Pfaffingen factory. The price may seem high but the right buyer willunderstandthat proper matching number 1986 air cooled Maicos areextremelyrare and desirable for collectors.
