Up for auction is our 1952 Jackson/Rotrax Mk1 500 cc Speedway motorcycle. This bike was purchased from Alan Bellham at Speedway Services in 2001 (while on a trip to England) as a roller, ess engine. It was dismantled and shipped to me in the U.S. in boxes. I restored it in 2002. I installed a restored J.A.P. Long 5 stud bought from George Wenn. The engine has not been run. This motorcycle was owned and raced in the Veterans Speedway Association Meetings in England by the late Vic Ridgeon from 1988 until 1999. Vic's professional career in British Speedway ran from 1948 until he retired in 1966. He rode for Yarmouth, ye House, olverhampton, ayleigh, underland, lasgow, est Ham, nd Exeter.
A bit of Rotrax history, he frames and forks were originally offered in Cadmium or Chrome finish. Most were sold with the Cadmium finish as the Chrome was an expensive up grade. When I did the restoration on this bike I chose to Chrome plate it since it was offered that way originally, nd it shows better that way as well. The frame, orks, anks, ims, ars, ll have been chrome plated. The spokes are stainless. The tires are unused and the rear is the early style Barum with small tread block design. The handle bars are the ones that Vic used the last few years of his regular career in the 1960's. He had kept them. There is a small brass plaque on the rear fender that denotes the years of Vic's career in professional Speedway.
This is a very nice Rotrax, with history) that would be a nice addition to a collection or museum. Don't miss out!
A photo and history board goes with the bike to the auction winner, long with a copy of a hand written letter from Vic, alking about the bike and his career. No Warranty expressed or Implied. Motorcycle sold as is.
