Description

You're looking at an extremely rare all original eastern block beauty called a Cezeta 501. This example is 100% original all the way down to the tires. It has 382 miles from new, nd has great compression. When it first came in it fired right up, ut since has sat in my personal collection in a dry warehouse in San Diego for the last 2 years, o I'm sure it needs a bit of a carb cleaning. This bike also has the fan belt motor with the original belt intact and in decent shape.
I'm selling this bike as it just does not fit into my collection of Japanese bikes, nd I want it to be able to be appreciated by someone who truly enjoys it and knows what it is.
FROM WIKIPEDIA:TheČezetais a motor scootermanufactured from 1957 to 1964 in Czechoslovakiafrom 1935 to 1997.The original design of the Čezeta is unique amongst scooters. It is unusually long for a two-wheeled vehicle at 2 meters and has a distinctive torpedo-shaped body with a long seat that lifts to reveal a substantial luggage compartment, sing space that in most scooters is occupied by the fuel tank. The front mudguard is fixed to the body and fully streamlined into the leg shields. The fuel tank is positioned above the front wheel, ith the headlight fitted into a recess and a luggage rack on the flat top surface. It was a common joke amongst Čezeta riders that the exposed front tank with built-in headlight formed an explosive warhead and detonator for the torpedo, hough in practice the Čezetas proved no more likely to catch fire than any other motor scooter, ven in serious collisions. The scooter was driven by the 175cc two-stroke single-cylinder motorcycle engine, iving a top speed of 55mph and economy of 3.2 litres/100km. The engine was modified for the enclosed scooter by having a drive pulley on the crankshaft driving a fan by means of a Vee belt. There were four foot-operated gears.

The original petrol versions were given type numbers that indicate their features. The first production started with Type 501, hen with advancements like a starter motor a type 502 was later released. The 501 model, uilt from 1957 to 1959, ad the rear wheel supported on one side only and suspended by a rubber block.

Though these were available in the U.S. they were a special order only. They were too costly compare to Italian scooters so nobody put them in their showrooms. According to Bertus only 3 or 4 were actually shipped in by CZ/Jawa and the rest that are here were brought in by private parties. As this example is in MPH it's safe to assume this is one of the 3 or 4 bikes actually shipped in by Cezeta.
