Description

In 1985 the AMA enacted the "production rule". basically outlawing factory works bikes in the U. S. . so no exotic machinery could be found in the starting gate at the Nationals. Supercross. etc. The AMA was trying to level the playing field between the factory teams and the struggling privateer. The law came into effect on January 1. 1986. Now what the heck does this have to do with this 1986 Suzuki RM 125 G on ebay you ask? Plenty. please read on. Since factory exotic works bikes were banned. this made the manufacturers make production bikes as close to factory works machines as possible. Bikes used by the high flying factory riders for 1986 would be modified production bikes. The cases. plastic. swingarms. etc. . of the factory riders had to be as used on the production bikes . . . . and lo and behold it made Suzuki completely redesign the RM line for 1986. This created what would be Suzuki's first production knock off of a factory works bike. ultimately benefiting the winning bidder of this auction almost 30 years later. Look how neatly that all tied together! Suzuki redid the 1986 RM 125 from top to bottom. The legendary "Full Floater" was near identical to what the 1986 factory works bikes were running. the frame now had "ovaled steel tubing" on the high stress areas. just like the 1986 works bikes; the radiators were repositioned as the 1986 works bikes. and the all new motor with AEC (automatic exhaust control) was painted blue. Now. "blue paint" won't make your bike faster. but it will make a real blue streak as you come through the chop screaming. hanging on for your life when the lightning switch powerband flips on at 8000 rpm! This example is clean for a bike that is turning 30. and 30 is the new 20 they say; plus it fires up first or second kick. shifts good and stops good. The bike has some new parts. Suzuki factory plastic. grips. spark plug. air filter. gear oil. etc. The tires are okay for puttin' around. but I'd change them if you plan on getting on a track. or doing anything where you are hanging it out. It is a must that you set up the suspension for your weight. as these bikes will handle like no other if you take a little time to dial them in a bit. Unless you are light. or ride for fun (and who really does that anyway I say. as I break out the ice packs for my knees). I'd get some stiffer springs. I am between 190 - 200 depending on the holiday season. and the front and rear are a bit soft for me. This bike is a real looker. and if you are looking for a mid 80's 125cc motocross bike. 1986 is the year. and Suzuki. . . . well nothing handles better than mid 80's Suzuki. nothing and that includes all the 2015 Suzuki's. Also. this bike is 194 lbs. so it is very light in the air. and knifing under the outside line on any turn is not just doable. but recommended! And the best thing about a 194 lb bike is picking it back up after a spill. so you will save a lot of money on protein powder and Muscle Milk! Erik Kehoe. riding for Suzuki came in 2nd respectively behind Micky Dymond in the 125 Nationals that year on a production based 1986 RM 125 G. just like this beauty. Now. Erik is from Granada Hills. CA. and I found this bike in Granada Hills. CA. It was in a garage for years. waiting in the dark. neglected. keeping company with a life sized Rambo statue. and a Suzanne Somer's Thigh-Master. but worst of all. covered with a deflated Teenage Mutant Ninja blow up doll . . . and now after a little clean up. a few parts. and some therapy. the bike is now for sale in . . . . . Granada Hills. CA. . where I live. Now. I'm not saying Erik Kehoe owned it. road it. or even sat on it. but I figure there is some good motocross karma about this 1986 Suzuki RM 125's geographical location!Sold with California Bill of Sale Also. no reserve! You could own this for the price of a Starbucks Frappuccino!
