Description

You are looking at the "British Bomber". This is a 1972 Triumph Bonneville 650 with only 12,643 miles on it that has been converted into a cafe racer. This has been a restoration/conversion project over the past 2-1/2 years. The frame and engine have matching VIN numbers. The engine work was professionally done by Checkered Past Cycles in Galesburg, I. The cylinders were bored out with new pistons and rings at 0.020" over. I also had them install new valves, alve seats/sleeves and springs. The transmission was completely removed, leaned and checked for wear and re-installed with only one small part replaced from wear. After 150 miles of break-in with the newly rebuilt engine, he bike was returned to Checkered Past Cycles for the engine to be re-torqued and a fresh oil change (recent). Timing with the original points and condenser was a struggle so there is a new electronic ignition installed with new coils, ew battery, ew wiring, ew lights, ontrols and ignition switch. New carburetors were added for the choke start and ease of adjustment. All of the cables (with the exception of the front brake cable) are new. The gas tank is lined with a special two-part epoxy with new shut-off valves and filters. The clutch plates and springs have been replaced. The custom made seat was built by me and then finished buy a professional upholsterer. The mufflers are new with newly installed chrome exhaust clamps and the exhaust pipes are wrapped. The front tire is new, he back tire is a little worn, ut still has some life left in it. The front fork seals have been replaced with fresh fork oil. The rubber instrument buckets have been replaced. The brake pads were checked and cleaned with a lot of life left in the pads. In the last picture you will see that I have included a helmet and goggles, he shop manual, he original points and condenser, mal carbs and a box of original parts (amal carbs) that were taken off the bike and replaced. The only negative that I am aware of is that the original speedometer might not be accurate on the speed of the bike (might be reading 40 mph when you are actually doing 50 mph). This bike has a four-speed transmission and is old-school set-up with the shifter on the right side.
This bike normally starts on the first kick (with the choke on) and idles well after it is warmed up. It is a solid bike that runs strong and handles extremely well. I would not be afraid to ride this bike 100 miles every day.
