Up for auction is a 2012 Triumph Tiger 800 in excellent condition both cosmetically and mechanically. It has 15,605 miles on the OD. I bought the bike from a middle-aged man in Louisville about two weeks ago just so I could ride it home to Nevada. I wanted to compare the ergonomics with those of my BMW 1200GS and while they are similar the BMW actually fits me a little better, o the Tiger has to go. I've put 2800 miles on the bike in about two weeks. The previous owner was a senior machinist with Ford in Louisville and a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast. He and his wife had just downsized their house and as part of the process he was selling off his bikes, etting down to a single machine - the new water-cooled 1200GS. Even so, e still had some misgivings about selling the Triumph. He loved the bike, ad maintained it to an exceptionally high standard. He replaced the stock fork springs with Race Tech springs to stiffen the front end and and re-did the fuel map to after market specs for improved performance and longer engine life. Before arriving in Louisville I asked him to to return the bike to the stock fuel map for the reduced fuel consumption, ut he talked me out of it and I'm glad he did.
The Tiger performs flawlessly, ruly a go-anywhere, o-anything motorcycle, nd a blast to ride. I computed the mileage at every fill up across the plains and through the Rockies and averaged mid-40's running at 75-80 mph. Very respectable mileage with the after-market map for those of you who are wondering about gas mileage if you make the switch. The previous owner opted to keep the stock exhaust, ut you could run with an Arrow or Leo Vince can without a re-map if you wanted to cut the weight. The TuneECU cable for re-mapping comes with the bike so you can DIY, f you choose.
Take a close look at the photos; they are an accurate representation of the machine for sale. It's beautiful. There were a couple of minor scuffs on the bike when I bought it, othing that really detracts from its appearance: a small scrape on the left mirror than is hardly noticeable and some cracks on the lower portion of the Madstad windshield (not the upper shield, ut the lower, elow the bars wind guard - see photo). You can buy a new Tiger 800 for about $12K or you can buy this one for a little better than half that. This is your best option.
A footnote on this sale: There is no hidden agenda here. The facts are as stated above. I'd been wanting to put a Tiger 800 to the test for about a year when this opportunity came up. I was hoping to use this 800 "roadie" as a dual purpose machine, eplacing the BMW because it is a bit lighter than my 1200GS and has a slightly lower seat height. Alas, he height difference isn't enough to justify switching bikes, aying the taxes on the Tiger, dding crash bars and luggage, ut, onestly, liked the bike well enough to consider it. I did about a dozen flip-flops, n fact, efore I was through. You can't - CANNOT - go wrong with this bike. Check my feedback and bid with confidence. I have a clear Kentucky title in hand.
Extras include: The aforementioned Race Tech springs, bout $118 + labor; a great Madstad windshield (a must have for this bike), lmost $300 retail; center stand @ $212, etail; Touratech handguards @ about $125; Rox Risers ($85), hich let you sit up a bit straighter; and the TuneECu cable, 20. This is money you would have wanted to spend but now won't have to.
A payment of $500 is due within 24 hours of the auction's close. Full payment within a week. Cash or wire transfer for the balance. This bike is for sale in the USA only.
