Description

For sale is my 1985 Yamaha RZ500, Cylinder Liquid Cooled Two-Stroke, ustom Painted to Kenny Roberts Replica Graphics. When I found this bike 8 years ago, had to have it. I was (and am) a big RZ350 fan and then my buddy explained to me that Yamaha made a 4 cylinder version that was never sold in the U.S.A. I did some research and watched over a few years then saw this bike. Several things immediately drew me to it which might you too but high on the list was the Kenny Roberts Paint Job. For me (a person who is by far more drawn to stock) I just can’t stop looking at this bike. Then add to it the complete rebuild and modifications made with high dollar parts, here was no decision to be made.

When I got it, y buddy convinced me to take a ride to the local Indy Ducati Dealer which was holding an open house event and motorcycle show. As we pulled up, wo guys from the Factory Ducati Semi heard the sound and ran up to ask me if this was really an RZ500… that felt good. I won 1st place at that show in the “Other Class”. I felt a little embarrassed as there was such a crowd gathered around the bike that most had never seen before. The same happens time and time again when I find the time to take it out for a cruise or to the Indy Moto GP… it just commands your attention.

The information below I share from the details given to me by the previous owner. The bike at that time had 700 miles on the custom restoration / rebuild and was built from a factory original bike that had never been down or raced;

This bike is beyond super fun to ride and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to own a 4 cylinder two-stroke. It is a very comfortable ride, ransmission shifts very smooth and all the chassis modifications make it handle extremely well over stock. The body plastic on this bike is not all cracked and shows no evidence I could find that the bike has been down (also shared by previous owner). The bottom cowl is not the stock one but the improved heavier fiberglass version from Rick Lance (I believe the OEM ones were prone to cracking). During my ownership, did not have to make any major modifications as this bike was like it was custom built for me. I did however (thanks to my friend who is a schooled factory motorcycle mechanic) improve upon the drivability and loud intake sound by adding the stock air box / UNI Filter combination as well as adding Ivan’s needle set upgrade.

Below is a list of the modifications I have made to the bike since my ownership which will add an additional 750 miles of riding (totaling about 1450 miles on the restoration);

- Stock Airbox and new UNI foam Filter

- Ivan’s Needles

- Matching Yamaha MPH Speedo I purchased and brought back from England (except needle pointer is all orange)

- RZV Mirrors

The bike has fresh anti-freeze and transmission oil as of this year and all other fluids have been rotated as needed during my ownership. It has an AGM Battery I replaced last year. The bike has not been down during my ownership and always stored in my winter heated and summer dehumidified garage.
