Description

2012 Yamaha TTR50E

Just in time for Christmas!

Offered for your consideration is a 2012 Yamaha TTR50E (electric start). I bought this bike for my than 7 year old grandson last year from the first owner whose daughter had outgrown it. I have first bought and restored an 82 Yamaha YZ60 for him, ut after I took it for a spin I realized it was not a good first motorcycle for him. Since owning the TTR50 over the course of this last year my grandson rode it 3 times and has grown too big for it and is ready for something bigger.

The bike features a 49cc electric start motor with an adjustable throttle setting (see the photo of the bolt I circled in yellow below the throttle as this is the throttle adjuster). You can turn this bolt in to restrict the amount of throttle your little one can apply and turn it out for more throttle. The bike also has a battery charger cable attached (you just need to buy the charger). The bike features a 3 speed automatic transmission that you will have to put into gear for your child (it designed that way so the little ones don’t get to power happy to quickly). When my grandson first started riding it, would put the bike in second gear (I think 1st gear is too low). Soon after he figured it out and would put the bike 3rd gear (the bike will run from a dead start in 3rd). I don’t know how fast it goes but likely around 30mph, owever as I stated you can restrict how much throttle can be applied to the point that you can keep up with them riding it at a fast paced walk.

I just did the service on the bike to include oil change, ilter cleaning & chain adjusting.

The bike also has training wheels. We never used them, owever if you have a 4 or 5 year old they would be ideal. Pricing, went and did some homework here. I was first going to buy one new as they are around $1300.00. However, fter taxes & set up fees and training wheels, was looking at somewhere around 2K out the door. This did not make much sense to me since my grandson was growing so quickly and 49cc is more than enough for these little ones. I next looked at used bikes and there are several of these bikes on Cycle Trader with prices all over the map in my opinion. That said these bikes are a better value used than new as the costs are just too high and the kids grow too fast. Buy it used and save yourself some money then keep it a couple of years and sell it to the next person with a little one they want to introduce to motorcycles. I actually started my now 8 year too late (that’s way we are selling it after 3 rides). I will ship at the buyer’s expense, r you can pick it up locally in Northern, A. Good luck, ike
