This model mounted a rotary disc valve intake 2-stroke single-cylinder engine with increased cooling efficiency and reliability and adopted many advanced features of the day. including a backbone type monocoque frame. water-resistant drum brakes and megaphone type muffler. The serviceability of the air cleaner. carburetor and clutch were also improved to create a machine that combined sportiness and practicality. It was also the first motorcycle to use a VM style Mikuni carburetor with a cable operated starting carburetor. These advances made the bike easier to start and more reliable. The rotary valve 2 stroke engine was considered fast at the time. Many of the 70's motocross stars started racing YG1 trail bikes.
