1978 Yamaha SR-500 SR500 ** Low mileage ** Survivor ** #17 off 1st year assembly

This auction is for an original survivor 1978 Yamaha SR-500 SR500 single cylinder motorcycle in a museum quality survivor condition. The paint is shiny and not faded. Has two small scratches on the right side of the tank and a chip near the seat. The seat is the original and is in excellent condition. All chrome is in excellent condition. There is a tiny bit of patina on the chain guard. All the rubber bits. pegs. grips. cables. etc are original and soft. It has been stored indoors for decades in an ideal dry Idaho climate. The motorcycle runs as good as it looksThe VIN numbers from the factory began production with VIN 2J2-000100. The VIN number on this bike is 2J2-000116. thus being the 17th SR-500 off of the line in the original year of production. I highly doubt there are any of these motorcycles not in a museum with a lower serial number. The current mileage at the time of the pictures was 2. 67. 0. When I talk of a survivor. I don't mean one that has been restored. This bike is original and a machine is only original once. I have shown the SR-500 at the Idaho Vintage Motorcycle Club show the last two years and at numerous shows held by our local chapter of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club. It runs great and starts easily. All the lights work perfectly. the fork seals do not show any signs of leakage. and it holds the road perfectly. While it will do the "ton". I have only done it once owing to respect for the 38 years of age it represents. Nevertheless. it is a lot of fun to ride. being narrow and having a ton of torque it pulls beautifully across the rpm range. Handling is exceptional. This is from a different age of motorcycles and there are only two that I think compare. the Yamaha SR-500 and the Honda GB-500. both "thumpers" and factory cafe style motorcycles. I am retired and will assist any buyer in pickup and loading or work with your shipper. I will require a $500 deposit and the balance in cash or bank transfer. Funds must be cleared by bank before pickup. The title is clear and I have the owners manual as well as one or two shop manuals for the bike. Finally. please don't bid if you do not have the funds.
