1970 Yamaha RT1-M 360cc Motocross. Matching frame/engine numbers. This is NOT a GYT-kitted RT1 enduro. but an original clean example of Yamaha's first-year factory 360cc purpose-built motocrosser. From the first-year production run of 7. 17 RT1-M units. this example is number 46. It has undergone a very thorough inspection and a very light restoration since I acquired it approx. 7 years ago as a genuine barn find in the dry climate of SW Idaho. This particular example is a first-year model of a 2-year run. the second-year 1971 model designated as the RT1-MX. The fuel tank and oil tank have the original finish and with the exception of a very minor (almost unnoticeable) depression around the left side of the fuel tank filler bung. there are no dents in either. just some nicks and scratches. Interior of fuel tank is in excellent condition and has not been lined. Fuel tank has new non-OEM badges and screws (very high quality). new fuel petcock. and the oil tank has a new AFE Graphics decal. identical to the original. The front forks as currently fitted are from a 1971 RT-1 model. as I prefer the look of the aluminum fork bottoms over that of the original steel units. Fork tubes have no pitting. the chrome is good. and they have new seals. Steering stem bearings are cleaned and lubed. The original forks are pictured separately and are included with this sale if buyer wants them. they are straight with light pitting in area between triple clamps and very minor pitting in slider area of one fork tube. Rear shocks are original and have surprisingly good compression and rebound damping action. although the springs will need to be rechromed. Front rim has a very minor flat spot. almost unnoticeable. Front and rear brakes cleaned. lubed. Chrome on front/rear wheels is excellent. no missing/bent spokes. and all spokes and nipples are relatively rust-free and clean. Front knobby is a 3. 00x21 Pirelli MT32 SandCross. the rear tire is a Dunlop 110/100-18 Sports D739. Both tires are relatively new and hold air. K&N handlebars. straight and ok chrome. The handlebar grips and control levers appear to be original. Original seat pan in very good condition. seat has new foam and cover. Rear fender is original and has been repainted due to minor surface rust. Front fender is original. but has a crack completely across. hidden beneath the mounting area. It has been repaired using a combination fiberglass layering and JBWeld on the underside of the fender. and the fender has been mounted in reverse so that it shows better. still maintaining the bare aluminum finish on the top side (good luck finding an identical replacement fender). Original front fender mounting brackets are mounted in reverse to accommodate the reverse mounting of the fender. Frame has been largely untouched except for some paint touch-up in some areas. After-market front number plate with original RT1-M mounting brackets. The original unsilenced expansion chamber has no rust or rotting. just very minor indentation of the perforated sheetmetal heat shield. Most. if not all fasteners on this bike are presumed to be original. all have been cleaned. none have been replated. Original airbox in excellent condition. original air filter cage is fitted with K&N filter foam. The motor was partially disassembled for gearbox/clutch inspection. points and condenser replacement. large end bearing inspection. piston/cylinder/cylinder head cleaning. piston ring replacement. and internal cleaning. The main bearings appeared clean and undamaged. the connecting rod had minimal lateral movement indicating that the main bearings were in ok condition. The motor shifts with no problems. although the clutch slips somewhat and may need new clutch plates. Autolube oil injection pump works properly. Cylinder is on original bore. Original piston (labeled 1N on top of dome) is a single-ring piston. and is fitted with a NOS ring of standard size. which has not yet been completely broken in. Inspection of the original cylinder bore showed no scarring and it was honed prior to reinstalling the piston. Bore measures 79. 95mm. piston measures 79. 80mm. Motor has good compression and starts fairly easily. Once started. it neither smokes nor leaks oil. and will idle steadily once warmed. I have not replaced any motor seals or bearings. but only those gaskets where needed. Original carburetor received thorough cleaning. but has not been fitted with a rebuild kit. Also. the 1971 RT-1 front forks. as fitted to the original RT1-M triple clamps. have had the upper-most 3/4-inch of the fork tubes turned down slightly (by lathe) to fit the original upper triple clamp. The original RT1-M triple clamps have not been modified. If the buyer chooses to receive the original forks. and if there is problem with the shipper having these forks affixed to the otherwise complete bike in some manner for transport. then seller will ship forks separately to the buyer at buyers cost. Otherwise. if buyer chooses. I can just reinstall the original forks and not bother with the newer units. buyers choice. New Parts: Fork Seals; Cables (clutch/throttle/front brake); Fuel tank petcock/badges; Seat foam/cover; Piston Ring (NOS Std. ); Drive Chain; Wheel Bearings (front/rear); CCI Oil Tank window & grommet/decal; Ignition Points/Condenser. Stator cover gasket. right-side clutch cover gasket. cylinder base gasket. Copper head gasket was annealed prior to reinstallation. Missing: Seat Hinge Strap. Rubber Fuel Tank Strap. Frame-mounted tank strap mounting post (left post is there. right post is missing). Being sold AS-IS. No Title. Bill of Sale only. Note: The discerning viewer may notice that the fuel line is disconnected from the tank petcock - that is due to having removed the tank for photos and forgetting to reattach the fuel line prior to taking additional photos. also. any odd colors on the tires are actually leaves and such:)On Mar-29-15 at 06:03:40 PDT. seller added the following information:Additional Note: I have received work from a well-informed source (a self-proclaimed "Yamaha Nut". nbsp;thank you Shawn) that for the model year 1970. only 2. 17 RT1-M models were exported to the USA by Yamaha. These are reported to be serial numbers 50101-52218. The serial number production run that I quoted in my initial listing (7. 17 units) was obtained through a casual internet search. and either may not be entirely correct. or perhaps represents ALL 1970 RT1-M units produced regardless of where they were exported to.
