Description

This is a restored. road-worthy car that was featured in the NBC program The Slap as a dream car for one of the main characters (see photos). This car is well on the way to being a fantastic example of mid 1970s BMW sporting excellence. The previous owner was in Miami and did the majority of the restoration work. The body and the interior are gorgeous. It's not perfect. but I love it and am sad to part ways with it. As my mechanic said. cars of this age are a project. and you have to be willing to put some love into it--and I just need a daily driver because I am in NYC. This is something you want to keep protected. covered. etc in a garage. I get more looks driving this thing than I have anything else. It's gorgeous. Great rims. the engine compartment and trunk area are in great shape. Best of all. the engine is a CHAMP. It started in 20 degree weather after just a brief warm-up pump or two. and I never ever have issues with it. I've taken multiple trips out of the city of more than 100 miles each with my girl and had no issues. Two months ago I had the clutch attachment changed out because it ceased to work. but that was a simple fix. When I first got the car I had a bunch of electrical work done and had to change out the ignition coil to be the correct one. The previous owner had put a different aftermarket coil on the car. The mechanic I have been using wanted me to buy new exhaust manifolds to raise the height of the undercarriage. and said the rubber housing over the right rear axle needs to be replaced. There needs to be work done to the gauges--I had significant work done on the electrical system but the horn and blinkers do not work yet. The center console needs to be reaffixed to the carpet. and there is a small region to the left of the driver's left leg that the fabric needs to be reaffixed. I think the shifter knob needs some glue as well. I want to be 100 percent transparent with the remaining restoration work that is needed here because the previous owner literally said "drives great! as is!" and I don't think that is honest. As I said. I drive this once a week and apart from putting the seatbelts back in (the bolts are there. all you have to do is attach them) and figuring out where the blinker relay goes (I haven't taken it back to the mechanic) it's completely road legal. But if you want this to be a perfect restoration--which I would strive for. given its looks--I think there is still some room to go. Holler with any questions. I love this car and can't believe I have to let it go!OTHER NOTES:*I don't think the mileage is accurate--the odometer is. but I think the restoration swapped out the overall mileage. *The heat/defrost don't seem to work*Radio does not work*There are a couple of dings--the front grille has a small dent in it that is barely perceptible and the back trunk has a ding about the size of a pencil eraser that could easily be covered over. *Everything else is basic wear and tear for a 40 year old car that has been beautifully restored*Cigarette lighter DOES work however. and I would use that often to power a jambox*The previous owner supplied the tank for the wiper fluid but I don't know how to attach it*The windshield wipers work just fine*Like any carbeurated car it probably needs a cleaning but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I think it would give you more power *The sunroof works incredibly well and is gorgeous!*The previous owner did not replace the seat belts. which I have and will provide with the car*The trunk lock works but I cannot get the door locks to work. I think this is a simple process but I am not sure what needs to be done*The seats slide back and forth but I cannot get them to incline forward. I don't know how to work on seats or upholstery so you'd need to this. BONUS:I will throw in two manuals and the new blinker relay. The manuals are titled BMW '02 Restoration Guide by Mike Macartney and BNW 2002 automotive repair manual by Haynes.
