Description

Thank you for viewing my ebay auction.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a spectacular 1967 Volkswagen beetle. It’s the one that all of us dream of finding someday, rguably the best year for the beetle, n incredible unrestored survivor condition, ith long time single ownership history.

David Sharkey bought his brand new Lotus White (L-282) Volkswagen bug in Beaverton, regon. At the time he was right out of college, nd got his first job working for the United States Postal Service. He needed a fuel efficient vehicle to deliver mail with on his mail route. Yes, s back when mail men delivered mail by foot or in their own personal cars.

It was originally ordered in L-282 with black interior, op out rear windows, apphire V radio, olid walnut Formula Vee shift knob w/ shift pattern shown on top, " whitewall tires, iver’s side rear view mirror, nd 10 slot wheel trim rings. All options are still present today.

It spent its life in Beaverton, regon under David’s careful ownership and was regularly serviced by the local dealership. David said the vw was a member of the family and never spent a night outside, as always garaged, ith no exceptions. I know, ard to believe, ut take a close look at the condition of the original paint, hrome, nterior, tc… I think you’ll agree, his is hard to argue.

David worked his way up the corporate ladder with USPS and retired as a high level executive. His trusty vw had a short but faithful tenure as a mail delivery vehicle. In the mid 1970s it was put into “occasional driver” status where it would remain though the mid 1990s when it was put into long term dry storage.

The last oil change sticker before they tucked it away was on February 2nd, 994. Mileage on the odometer at that time was 87,089.

Today it has 87,104 miles original. It’s only covered 15 miles in the last 22 years! Details on that later.

The car was discovered by a friend of mine at a garage sale in 2014.

David and his wife Debra were hosting a neighborhood garage sale in their driveway, arage doors open, nd my friend spotted it in the corner of the garage with a good layer of dust over the top of it. When my friend asked about the VW he got the same old line of “Not for sale but you’re welcome to leave a name and phone number”. He left his number, nd got a call months later, avid was doing formal interviews with prospective buyers that had left their contact info in the past. In February of 2015 David finally decided to let go of his beloved VW.

Here’s a list of the mechanical work that was done in the past year to bring it up to turn key driver status:

New battery.

(4) New firestone bias ply tires in the proper size of 5.60-15 with the correct whitewall width. Nearly identical to the original spare. Original Goodyear spare tire has never touched the ground, nd still has the nubs intact.

New brakes front to back including the soft lines, ual circuit master cylinder as per original, oth brake light switches, heel cylinders, tc. All German parts used.

Gas tank flushed out, ew soft fuel lines front to back. Fuel sending unit professionally rebuilt. Works as new.

Full tune up, il change, nd original carburetor rebuilt. Car still has the original dark brown Bakelite distributor cap, ierburg fuel pump (also rebuilt), ir cleaner support bracket, ll of the preheat hoses / brackets / grommets / clamps, tc are all intact and functional just as when it rolled off the assembly line in 1967.

Both axle boots replaced with german OEM replacements as originals were getting a little stiff from age and sitting, as a precautionary measure.

Some of the highlights in terms of condition:

Floor pan is flawless and rust free.

Number matching drivetrain front to back.

Gorgeous original paint that holds a great shine. The body is very straight.

Engine is clean enough to eat off. Same thing holds true for the underside of the engine lid and front trunk lid. Surgically clean.

All original date coded glass including the windshield which is in really nice condition. The VW logo is etched in the windshield in the driver’s side lower corner but very faint, as unable to get a clear picture of this.

Date code instruments. Clean wiring, verything tidy and it its proper place behind the wiring cover.

Correct and original pear shaped drivers side mirror in beautiful condition.

Proper stance for a 1967 with the front perched up just a hair, ike it knows it’s exclusive.

Proper 2 speed windshield wiper motor works great.

Door gaps are best I’ve seen, oors have that wonderful clunk to them when they shut.

Underneath the back seat you’ll see the original insulation over the heater tubes, rease pencil markings, eat springs are still shiny black, riginal horse hair padding in excellent condition, nd original paper tag showing black upholstery is stuffed up underneath it.

1967s have several 1 year only parts on them. If you’re not familiar was some of these nuances, pend some time researching this subject, hey are a very special car.

Starts effortlessly, rives every bit as good as it looks. Choke sets up as it should, icks right down when she warms up, t’s just a dream to drive.

Door seals, indow scrapers, ent wing seals, re still supple and soft, nother testament to being stored indoors and kept out of the elements.

We’ve put a few shake down miles on it just to make sure all brakes are seated and adjusted, mergency brake adjusted per VW specifications, uel mixture set, dle speed set, nd fan belt tension set properly.

The car does have 87k miles worth of wear & tear and you will find imperfections in the car. If there’s something you want to see up close that’s not in the gallery let me know.

Pictures are worth a thousand words… I’ve got 100+ pictures posted in the gallery link below.

On Feb-23-16 at 13:21:27 PST, eller added the following information:

Revision 2/23.

There will be no international shipping available on the bug. It's a promise that was made with the original owner that I will be honoring. It slipped my mind Sunday when this auction went up. He was adamant about the car staying here in the USA. Thank you for your understanding and sorry for any inconvenience this may cause for overseas buyers.
