How else can we explain a triple-black coupe with some big standout features?When black is done right. it shines like a mirror. On this Chevelle. its slippery-smooth finish gives it an alluring distinction to the textured black vinyl roof. The excellent chrome in the grille. headlight surrounds. bumpers. wheel arches. door trim. and exhaust tips all provide the complementary contrast to this darkness. It's this same tone that makes the shine on Torq Thrust styled wheels a real standout. Rally stripes. and the twin power dome hood are just some of the noticeable upgrades since this coupe came from the factory. but the overall effect is not overboard. There's a good balance in this car that will turn heads at stoplights. but it is not trying so hard to be an SS clone that you'll have to continuously answer odd questions at car shows. Inside. this Chevelle has enough upgrades to make it feel like a restomod. The vinyl bucket seats have a more individual high-backed appearance than the stock ones. and they provide more support than anything that came from the factory in 1968. As a nifty addition. the front chairs also swivel outwards for comfort and show. These seats. door cards. carpeting. roof. and dashboard are all in a deep black that continues to give this car its menacing feel. The steering wheel is out of a younger Chevy unit. which offers a better grip for the power steering. There is a custom center console that houses the three-speed automatic with T-bar grip. Just ahead of that is a modern AM/FM/CD stereo as well as a new set of gauges for oil. water. and power. Of course. the unmistakable gauge upgrade in this coupe is the large racing tachometer mounted to the A-pillar. Under the hood is the largest small block V8 Chevrolet offered in 1968. The 327 cubic inch motor gives immense power without the added weight of its big block siblings. There has been so many chrome upgrades in the engine bay headers. air cleaners. piping. pulleys. valve covers. etc. that you might want to hand out sunglasses before lifting the hood to show off. There was a lot of work that went into making this Chevelle unique inside and out. It almost feels like someone wanted to create the first 1968 small block Super Sport.
