This compact and ultra-clean 1965 Chevy Nova packs a nasty little surprise under its hood: a 350 cubic inch V8 with a few horsepower-making upgrades. So if you're ever out and about and notice this great-looking little red hardtop roll up next to you, do yourself a favor and pretend you didn't notice it, because this is a predator on the street.Hard to believe a Nova could be this pretty, isn't it? With a look that suggests a far more expensive and substantial car, Chevy's compact grocery-getter takes on a whole new upscale look when it's wrapped in fiery torch Red paint. The price really doesn't tell you much about how incredibly nice the paint is, with laser-straight bodywork and no deviations from stock. The cowl induction hood shows some performance ambitions, and the rest of the car makes no secret of the fact that a lot of money went into the build. It doesn't seem inappropriate to add the SS badges and crossed-flag emblems on a car with this much performance, but with shiny chrome bumpers and stainless trim, they're likely to go unnoticed until it's much, much too late. This car keeps everything low-key inside, where a stock bucket seat interior is pretty much the way Chevy intended almost fifty years ago. New black upholstery wraps around the front and back seats, there are new door panels, fresh carpets, and a taut headliner overhead, so it's quite attractive. A wood-rimmed wheel is probably an option few Novas had when they were new, but it seems right at home, and, of course, you know how we love the industrial look of a shifter sticking right out of the transmission tunnel, with this on linked to a TH350 3-speed automatic. The original gauges are augmented by a center-mounted tachometer that looks like it was born there and there's an upgraded AM/FM radio to the right, more evidence that this car wasn't built to do anything but break hearts. They also added a nice aftermarket A/C system under the dash. The trunk is nicely finished in black with a black carpet set, along with a space-saver spare that's a smart idea in the compact Nova. This car's whole reason for being lives under the hood. Topped by an open-element air cleaner and a lot of polished aluminum and chrome, the 350 cubic inch V8 makes big torque in a relatively lightweight package, an ideal combination for the featherweight Nova. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor makes for instantaneous throttle response and works well with the 350's propensity to rev. Polished valve covers and a custom accessory drive setup enhance the attractive engine compartment, and you have to appreciate how they went the extra mile to make it all look neat and tidy. It cackles on the overrun, but it's pretty docile around town with the kind of effortless torque that makes it feel punchy at any speed. The automatic transmission works well with the 350's broad torque curve and feeds a heavy-duty 10-bolt rear end, because you know this sucker was built for combat. Ceramic-coated long-tube headers and a recent dual exhaust system that doesn't do much to keep its identity a secret, but the sound is glorious. The stance was lowered just a bit and classic Cragar mag wheels were fitted with 195/60/15 front and 215/60/15 rear BFGoodrich radials.Nicely finished with lots of performance, this is a car where the money was well spent and offers a great value for the next owner.
