The new Fixed Roof Coupe (FRC) model was introduced this year. It was originally intended as a lower cost. lightweight racer. It ended up being only slightly less expensive than the coupe although it includes more options. The FRC includes the Z51 handling package and the 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. The HUD Heads Up Display was not available in the FRC. Another optional feature offered in 1999 is the Active Handling System (AHS) which monitors the car for slides and applies brakes on single wheels to keep the car straight. Competition mode is also included with the AHS option.
