This 1999 Chevrolet Camaro SS convertible was built at a time when SLP was at the very top of the Camaro food chain. With factory connections and the ability to order one of these incredible F-bodies directly through your local dealer, t was the quickest, asiest way to get all the hi-po goodies without looking through a catalog and building it yourself. With a 6-speed manual and only 23,763 original miles, f you want one to keep forever, his might be a smart choice. The fourth-generation Camaro ragtop was unquestionably a great-looking car, nd SLP's modifications only enhance the aggressive attitude. Almost all the bodywork is stock, ut SLP added their own custom hood, hich became the SS's signature design element, gaping, ully-functional ram-air setup that actually worked as advertised. Inky black paint certainly doesn't hurt, nd it's probably the signature color for the SS, esulting in a menacing look that scared lesser cars away on the street. The rear wing is better-integrated into the design than just about anything built since, nd thanks to composite body panels (except for the quarters) it'll look this good practically forever. It shows 23,763 miles, nd given how astoundingly nice this car is, ou know both owners took care of it as if it were a million-dollar investment. A few SS badges help identify the car to those unfamiliar with the top-of-the-line Camaro, ut by the time anyone notices, t'll be long gone.SLP knew that real drivers were their primary customers, o the supportive chairs inside this SS wear supple tan leather, nd it's in virtually new condition in every way, ith only light comfort marks on the driver's chair. For the most part, t's purely stock Camaro hardware inside, ncluding the fat airbag-equipped steering wheel, omprehensive instrument panel, nd leather-wrapped shifter knob. Niceties include power windows, ocks, nd mirrors, tilt column, nd A/C, one of which seem to hurt performance in any notable way. The upholstery, arpets, nd door panels are virtually unmarked and there are custom embroidered floor mats as well. SLP added an SS badge on the dash, ust above the familiar GM/Delco AM/FM/CD stereo, hich still sounds great today. The black canvas top stows neatly under a hard-shell tonneau cover, hich keeps the convertible looking sleek, nd it doesn't even take up much of the room in the trunk!SLP excelled in making the most of Chevy's small block V8s, nd thanks to a few time-tested tricks, his LS1-powered SS was the fastest, astiest pony car on the market in 1999. It isn't modified, ut all the testing of the day suggested that the Camaro's LS1 was somewhat under-rated anyway. Tweaks include a special cat-back exhaust system that gives this Camaro a rebellious roar instead of a stock mumble, ut why mess with a good thing? The engine bay is extremely clean with all the factory parts still intact and sings of careful maintenance that keeps it in top mechanical condition without spoiling its authenticity. A 6-speed manual transmission snaps through the gears and gets the most out of the engine and the hunkered-down suspension is far more capable than you'd expect from a car with a live rear axle. You'll note that the floors are immaculate with factory overspray and no signs that this car has ever seen rain, et alone snow; it's really impressive. Chrome 5-spoke "A-mold" wheels are one of Chevy's very best designs, ith these wearing new 275/40/17 performance rubber.Unquestionably an important part of Camaro history, his extraordinarily well-preserved and nicely documented ragtop is a real treat for drivers and collectors alike.
