I am selling a 1968 Chevelle 396 SS. This is a beautiful car that is a blast to drive and get looks everywhere you take it! This is a true 396 not a clone. The restoration on the body and chassis was done 8 years ago, everything was done right and no corners cut. The paint is still in great shape and looks really good, you would never know it was painted 8 years ago. I got it with a tired motor and trans so I built the 396. Troys machine in Rigby ID did all the work on the motor, all new internals, a hefty cam, all new valve train, high output oil pump, balanced & blueprinted, ect. I also put and edelbrock intake and carb on it and now the motor is an animal and it makes the car crazy fun to drive! This car(i was told) came from the factory with an auto transmission so when I did the motor I pulled the 4 speed trans out and had Monster Transmission build a super strong TH400 to put behind the 396. The trans is really nice and makes it nice to put it in gear and just go. The drive train has less that 4000 miles on them.
The interior was done new in the original theme as well, it is all black and is in perfect condition. The red stripe bias ply tires were pulled off and replaced with red stripe radials that made the car handle way better. There is a custom autosound radio in the dash that is a factory replica, all 3 speakers have been replaced and a 4 channel amp was added so you could hear the music over the 40 series flowmaster mufflers. This car also has the roller style tach along with factory bucket seats as you will see in the pics. Everything on this car works and functions as it should, it is a gorgeous car and I can't even explain how fun it is to drive! It really is perfect in every way, the only things that are slight blemishes are a few chips around the hood area and one small bubble area on the door. Very small but I want to be completely honest on the car condition. Only reason for selling is I have the opportunity to buy my dream car so unfortunately my baby has to go. Also, I do have all the factory parts off the 396 that can go with it as well as the 4 speed trans and the original bias ply red stripe tires.
I added a pic of the VIN. Sorry it's a little blurry but you can see it starts with a 138 confirming its a true SS.
I wanted to clear up and questions around the miles on the car. The car had 63,000 miles on it when it underwent a frame off restoration about 8 years ago. The odometer now shows just over 88,000 miles, 25,000 since the restoration. As stated above the motor and trans have less than 4000 miles on them.
