Think about it: you could have this beautiful Butternut Yellow hardtop. snarling big block included. or a Honda Accord. Not a very tough choice. is it?The early Chevelle hardtops are classics. with their simple ornamentation and dramatic flying buttress C-pillars. they look like nothing else. This one is a very clean. straight southern car that has been refinished with an eye towards driving it to cruise nights and weekend shows. Code Y Butternut Yellow is this car's original color and looks absolutely fantastic and the workmanship is nicely done. as even those massive quarter panels are straight and wave-free. No need for a cowl-induction hood. as it wears a stock one with those cool inserts. adding to the aggressive look while keeping it in the Chevy family. A blacked out grille and SS badges suggest there's more to this Chevelle than meets the eye. and the black vinyl top is not only in great shape. but provides the kind of contrast that works best on light colors like Butternut Yellow. Bright chrome bumpers add some sparkle. all the stainless is in very good overall condition. Much of the black interior was refinished in the original style. but remarkably the seats and carpets were left untouched. It's got some very. very minor wear. but the overall condition suggests a car that has always been properly maintained and the no-nonsense look of these early cars has its own industrial-strength appeal. A full array of gauges are in the instrument panel. an extra-cost upgrade with the SS package in 1967. and the woodgrained applique across the face of the dash adds some warmth. Everything looks quite authentic and in very good condition save for the face plate for the HVAC controls. which is definitely starting to show its age. The original radio remains in the dash. but could probably stand to be upgraded to something a bit more contemporary for cruising pleasure. In back. the trunk offers spatter paint and a crisp. clear set of reinforcing ribs. so you know the sheetmetal is in good order. With this car. you also get genuine V8 muscle. thanks to a thundering 454 cubic inch V8. It is dressed the way the factory might have done it. including Chevy Orange paint and chrome valve covers and air cleaner. It doesn't have any big. obvious upgrades that would distract from the presentation. although there's an Edelbrock carburetor hiding under that air cleaner. It starts quickly and easily with a nice rumble from the Flowmaster dual exhaust system. and offers quick reflexes compliments of the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. The chassis is solid and clean as well. although it's pretty original so don't expect it to be all sparkly and perfect. Look a little closer and you'll find a rugged 10-bolt rear end and a mild lowering job to give it just the right rake. Perhaps the car's most striking feature. those staggered Coys wheels have been given the show chrome treatment and then wrapped in ultra-low-profile 255/40/18 front and 255/35/20 rear performance rubber. This clean Malibu offers a lot of fun that neatly straddles restored and modified. A great look that is only a few steps removed from stock if that's your thing. it makes a dramatic entry everywhere it goes.
