The four eyed mustangs. so named for the separate high and low beam rectangular headlights. have almost a cult following. This particular vehicle is likely the most loaded 4-eyed I have seen or heard about. Power steering power locks. cruise control - yes on a manual transmission '85. premium sound. fog lights - yes original. t-tops. factory air. This summer car was put into storage in the mid-nineties by the original owner (contact info provided to new owner) until the business moved and had to be relocated. It was sold to a friend of mine. a mechanic friend. who did not have the ambition to see the restoration through but did not want it chopped up and destroyed either. I had just finished a 66 vert and was ready for a new project and the timing was right. I stripped the car to bare metal. reworked the poor body work that had been done after a minor fender bender (rear quarter) in the first years of its life. Now. mind you. when I say stripped. I mean everything! Lights. weather stripping. glass. all trims. emblems. the entire interior - everything. I then etched the car and proceeded to work on the mechanical. It received a new fuel system from from to back with the exception of the rigid fuel line under the floor pan. Including tank. soft line. pump. hard line to filter. nbsp;carburetor (holly 4-bbl quite similar to the original) throttle kicker solenoid (ask for the story there). high flow filter. I pulled the original stainless headers and soda blasted then cast blasted. Replaced the rest of the system with a hooker x pipe. replaced the trans mount to the 86 version for true dual exhaust. nbsp;flow-master and finished with polished slant tips. Nice look and deep throaty muscle car sound. New intake. exhaust. valve cover gaskets - silicon reusable. The original valve covers were pretty oxidized. so I replaced with the Ford racing aluminum covers. The stock spark box was intermittent. so I pulled everything and replaced with an MSD coil. 6n and tach adapter. I know it's a little cliche. but it's a known quantity and would rather not mess with unknowns. I replaced the alternator and power steering pump and completely replaced the factory air lines. accumulator. condenser. compressor. evaporator core - there was a leak somewhere. why mess around ;). I also replaced the heater core with the Motorcraft core when I had the AC box out. New suspension with the exception of the springs which measured out in spec. New brakes; lines. rotors. pads. drums. shoes. wheel cylinders. New wheels and tires. I chose the argent silver 17x9 cobra style that look so nice on the foxes. Out for paint - I always loved the Eleanor grey. so I stayed pretty close to that. I went with a Honda grey metallic and 4 coats of high solids clear. I am told that I am just too picky. but I expected more from a $5000 paint job that I had already done the prep for. He did shoot 4 coats of clear and polish to an elbow deep shine. but there a couple of flaws. most notably some clouding on the passenger side door that. if you catch the sun right. becomes apparent that the gun was not maintained at a steady distance causing variation in flake density. Contact info for paint man will also be furnished. I had him spray all of the old trim that could not be replaced and the new trims that I was able to find. again. not impressed. but they look a whole lot better than they did. I received they car back 4 weeks later and started the build. All new weatherstripping. nbsp;re-install the glass and window trims. new dew wipes. and skirt molding. new emblems. lighting. new locks and ignition switch. Almost every 'soft' part of the car was replaced with correct new parts. I have nearly all of the original parts that the car came with. including the GT tail lights with that God-awful orange directional section. I used new LX style. I also have some new parts for the car that will be included. The old phone dial (ugly) wheels ended up at the scrap yard. There was no saving them - not that I wanted to. All new restoration interior back to stock. Headliner. carpet. trims. seat foams. nbsp;upholstery. replaced knobs I could not find. blah blah. Carpet overall quality is fantastic but just short side to side. It will slide out from the trim on the passenger side. I have a fix. but have not done it. I know I am forgetting a lot. but this should give a pretty good indication into the level of effort and the horrific amount of money poured into this car. I should just start picking random people to write $5000 checks to and save myself some time and energy. But. for me. it's the project that is the fun part. Project is over and so to. now. is my interest. I did drive it about 1500 miles last year though. I will NOT sell this car to a teenager. Not happening. period. 5. 0 stick with factory semi-posi. Not happening. Don't ask. Call . mail. text. I'll answer when I can. Not in a hurry. don't need the money. don't have to sell. No tire kickers or joy rides. I think that covers the disclaimers. ;) Well. for Craiglist it does. this is ebay. Paypal will be accepted for a non-refundable $800 down payment. Full payment required within 5 business days by cash in person. or verifiable bank check drawn on a national bank or credit union. I will be happy to make arrangements to load the vehicle on whatever mode of transport is arranged by the successful bidder. Car is available for inspection by prospective buyers BEFORE their bid. I will make myself available. In other words. look before you bid if there any concerns. Please note that the vehicle IS advertised and available for local sale. I will be very quick to remove the listing should the car sell locally. A little early for New Yorkers to by toy shopping. but who knows. I'm all typed out. and remembering the stack of receipts that I need to forget! So on to the pictures. OH - the louvers - so proud of the louvers! I was able to locate new old stock 10 slat aluminum lovers. 2 years in searching but there it is. It really sets off the car. I think. For the uber aficionado. the 85 should have the 12 slat louver. not the 10. The 10 looks better but didn't come out until 87(? I think). I also have the retractable luggage compartment cover in the barn. The last picture I added (similar car from a distance) was the model of this build. I saw this picture when I was deciding what to do with this one. The only thing I did differently was use a matte black for the hood "decal". I bought the stencil kit from laurel mountain and had it painted on instead of the cheese vinyl decal that collects wax around the edge. I had considered clearing over a decal. but I like the paint better. Didn't I say I was done typing?
