Description

The car. just like my Ford Lightning pickup truck. has been sitting for quite a while. However. the Boss has been sitting a while longer. as my father did not do very much with it the last couple of years that he had it. So it does need several updates and repairs. in additions to ones that I had completed over the past year. Over the past year. I had the carburetor professionally refurbished. and the gas tank replaced with a factory replacement. As for repairs that are needed. it needs new plugs and wires. a new clutch (sitting for so long may have rusted a spring in there; third gear is a problem) and it needs header gaskets. It also needs paint (which the photos will show). It has very recently. within the past 7-8 months. begun to develop the first bit of surface rust. Luckily it's not IN the metal yet. so it's easily fixed right now. Also worth noting that my dad decided he wanted more horsepower. so he bought an identical Cleveland-R 351 motor that he found in Illinois (taken from a wrecked Boss 351) and sent it to COMP Cams in Memphis. Tenn. The other engine was bored and stroked to increase displacement. and a custom cam shaft was installed. The current engine has 380+ c. i. of displacement and last time it was dyno'ed. produced 499 horsepower. I have the receipt for the work that was done. . The original motor that was replaced. however. is still in possession. We just filled it with Marvel Mystery Oil and wrapped it up. It's been sitting and preserved. and whoever buys this car will also get the original motor. Honestly. I have no clue if anything was wrong with it to warrant all the other stuff that was done. But. there you go and the winner will acquire the original motor. I also have nearly every last receipt for work. replacement parts. any restorative work that was done and so on between 1998-2004. I also have the ORIGINAL title of the car from when it was purchased off the lot in Tulsa. Okla. in 1971. I've also verified the VIN# through Ford Motor Company and Marti Auto Works. Winner of the car will receive this provenance. too. So that's all the really important stuff. so the history (real names are excluded for the privacy of the original owner). The car was bought in Tulsa. Okla. in 1971 by the first owner. The original owner. at some point. moved to Beverly Hills. Calif. and the car went with him. He really did not drive the car much. and from 1990-98. it was garage kept and only driven for maintenance. My dad bought the car in spring of 1998. and the car at that time had just over 8. 00 miles (forgot precise total. but it's listed on one of the documents I have). We still have the Hemmings book where my father found the listing that led to him buying the car. Also during the first ownership. the car was painted white with black detailing. in the exact style of a proper Boss 351. The car rolled off the assembly line in Dearborn. Mich. painted Ford Grabber Blue. I have the Ford VIN# verification. along with the Marti AutoWorks Report on the car to fully verify and authenticate the VIN# (as mentioned earlier). At that point. my dad owned the car from 1998 until 2012 when he passed away. which is obviously how I came to inherit it. I've spent nearly a year trying to gauge a fair market value for it in its current condition. and with the amount of provenance that I have on it. The one and only piece of history on that car that is unaccounted for. and I could never verify. was the change in paint color. Although the car has been used as a 'model' in the past. and was the centerfold in a massively distributed collectible flyer. that you can see here: http://www. motorstown. com/images/ford-mustang-boss-351-02. jpgYes. the feature car in that mailer is this very car. I have printouts of the photos from the photoshoot that the winner will also receive. I also have a 1999 SVT Ford Lightning pickup truck that is also for sale. I am open to offers on the pair. **Also. when making an offer or requesting additional photos. please know that I live in Florida. but my cars for sale are in storage back home in Coden. Ala. . under the care of my family. I will make my best effort to request additional photos that I don't currently have available. **UPDATE: I added a photo that shows the Marti Report on the car. and one of several 1971 Mustang manuals that we collected that comes with the car. The manuals include the Haynes manual for the car. reprints of other dealer materials used to sell these cars and more. I can provide a more detailed summary of the documents and other items in that box. if needed. Just let me know. **CLARIFICATION: Big thank you to the eBayer who pointed this out - But in the flyer I linked to in the listing. you will see that the spoiler is not on the car. The spoiler was not installed until the spring of 2013. when we found it wrapped up and sitting in the trunk of the vehicle. Maybe my dad knew it was there. but I did not know it had a spoiler until the mechanic helping me discovered it and installed it. One of the documents/items that will come with the car are a printout of the photos from the photo shoot when the car was featured in the flyer. verifying that placement.
