Description

If you were around in 1996, ou know what a big deal this 1996 Ford Mustang Cobra really is. The 5.0 was gone, eplaced by a screaming DOHC all-aluminum V8 that churned out an impressive 305 horsepower. For a bit of nostalgia that's beautifully preserved, his Cobra is an awesome piece of performance hardware for the price of a used Hyundai. Laser Red is the quintessential SN95 color, he one that was on the front of all the brochures and given to all the car magazines. The 1996 Cobra didn't look all that different from its predecessors, ith all the good stuff hidden under the skin, ut there are a few notable upgrades. The hood got two nostrils to help set it apart from lesser Mustangs and there are Cobra badges front, ides, nd rear. The rear bumper reads COBRA as well, nd it's been highlighted in the same gold that makes up the stripes, hich, bviously, eren't factory equipment but look great here. It's shockingly well-preserved, ooking like it's two years old, ot 20, uggesting that someone really loved this car. It hasn't been wrecked or raced or abused, nd the lack of modifications speak to the fact that it's been properly maintained all its life. The SN95 shape has aged rather well and for many, t still represents the archetypal Mustang. The only non-original paint is the front bumper, ust to erase 20 years of driving enjoyment, ot accident damage.Cobras were luxurious inside, ffering genuine leather buckets and just about every option Ford could throw into them. The tan upholstery in this car gives it an upscale look and the hides are very nicely preserved, ith only gentle comfort marks on the seats but no splits or tears. The fat leather-wrapped steering wheel looks and feels great, nd all Cobras got white-faced gauges to set them apart. Everything was standard, ncluding A/C, ower windows, ocks, nd mirrors, ruise control, rear defroster, nd a decent-sounding AM/FM/cassette/CD stereo system (it was the '90s after all), nd it all works like it should. Even the 5-speed manual transmission got its own special leather knob that was slightly different than the GT piece. You also get a back seat that's actually usable by real-sized people and a good-sized trunk that looks like it's never been used. The real reason you wanted a Cobra lives under the hood: a 32-valve, -cam, uel-injected, ll-aluminum V8. It turns out that these engines are bulletproof reliable with their heavy-duty main bearings that were built for RPM. It lights off easily and idles smoothly, ever feeling like a monster, nd at full song, t makes the most wonderful mechanical sounds. The only notable upgrades are an MSD ignition system and a pair of Magnaflow mufflers, either of which affect reliability or usability but which add a bit of fun to the experience. It's been properly maintained all its life, o there are no issues, o excuses, nd no surprises for the next owner. The 5-speed shifts crisply and the suspension, hich was specially tuned for the Cobra, ides remarkably well for the performance levels it offers. Big 13-inch disc brakes were part of the deal as well, iving the Cobra world-class binders that were more than a match for its horsepower. At 79,500 miles, his one was fitted with a fresh set of chrome Cobra R-type wheels and staggered 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Kumho radials, o it's ready to rock.Documented with the original window sticker, VT documents, nd maintenance receipts, his is a heck of a lot of pony car fun for not a lot of cash.
