1928 Ford Model A Roadster Pickup Hot Rod Rat Rod Traditional Rod
I am listing this for a good friend of mine, ike Taft, ho is better with old cars and flatheads than people and computers. This is a bare bones traditional Hot Rod that is virtually a new car. He started with a new steel body and frame from Last Refuge Hot Rods and everything attached is either new or rebuilt. As a old time builder (and he is old and crotchety) he knows and used all the good parts that make up a traditional roadster pickup. Parts like a rebuilt Offenhauser equipted '52 flathead, Flatomatic C4, Winters quick change, 40 Ford brakes, 51 Ford truck steering box, tc, tc, tc. It was built to be fun to drive and very dependable, nd it is. Everything works as it is supposed to because it is new and well built with only a few miles. More interested in fun and dependability than shiny parts and shiny paint he chose his finishes and faux patina paint job carefully to be easy to clean and to look like something that could have been built “back in the day”. I see it as a Traditional Rod with character but others may see it as a Rat Rod. No matter what you call it, t is cool! If you are looking for a very well built Hot Rod in the traditional vein that is very dependable, nd ready to drive and enjoy the day you buy it this is the one.
The build details are listed below.
Body and Frame: His Track T Roadster was stripped of its parts and a new steel 1928 Ford Model A Roadster Pickup body, rame and bed were purchased from Last Refuge Hot Rods as a base. A '32 Ford cowl vent was purchased from Bookville and installed for a little fresh air. It has a original '32 Ford Truck Grill Shell. The bed has a rear roll pan with LED lights that are almost invisible when off (a concession to modern tailgaters who can't see!) and '34 Ford tail lights on the bed side. The custom bed floor, he body modifications and the faux patina paint were all done by the local metal master “Dion”. The headlights are original '28 Fords with the original fluted lenses modified with halogen bulbs and turn signals. There is a hood top panel held in place by Dzus fasteners if you want to hide the dual carbs. There is also a new folding top and top frame if you want to hide from the sun.
Front End: A Bell 4 inch dropped axle has '41 Ford spindles, ew king pins, ew '40 Ford brakes and drums, nd Armstrong shocks. All supported by a new spring and located by split wishbones. It is steered by drag link and a rebuilt '51 Ford pickup box.
Brakes: All new/rebuilt '40 Ford wheel cylinders, hoes, nd drums. New brake lines. Ford dual master cylinder mounted under the floor with a easy access panel to get to it.
Wheel & Tires: The fronts are original '40 Ford wheels with new 6.50 x 16 Firestone tires. The rears are '46 Merc with 8.20 x 15 Stones.
Rear End: A '47 Ford modified with a new Winters Quick Change with a 4:11 gear, nd extra quick change gears. Held up by a Model A spring and tube shocks, ocated by a pair of Speedway radius rods.
Wiring: A modified EZ Wiring kit. 12 volt system.
Engine: Rebuilt '52 Ford Truck block bored .125 over with a 3.750 stroke. The engine has been balanced, he heads reworked, uns a Schneider 270 H cam, Petronics electronic ignition, ffenhauser dual carb manifold and dual 94 carbs. It also has a 12 volt Powermaster alternator that looks like a old stock 6 volt. The radiator is new aluminum unit by Superior Radiator with a 15 inch electric automatic fan. The Reds Headers dump into mufflers under the car and exit under the tail gate.
Transmission: A rebuilt Ford V8 C4 with a short tail shaft and a Flatomatic adapter kit and converter with a stock stall.
Interior: The interior is bare bones, othing you don't need to drive. The new aluminum bomber seats are by Speedway with bottom pads only. The steering wheel is a large old Sprint Car wheel (cause Mike is a large, l, print car driver). The old style gauge panel is filled with Stewart Warner gauges and the Model A dash is nicely pinstriped. Don't look for the stereo, arpet, r upholstery. The interior is finished in nice black paint and the flathead is the music.
