Description

Sometimes you just want a nice Mustang that drives well and doesn't give you headaches. This 1965 coupe is like that, ffering a sweet-running 289, 4-speed, nd a handsome paint job that might help keep you out of trouble, t's exactly the right car for someone who likes to drive their vintage hardware.Mustang coupes don't get the attention their convertible and fastback siblings do, ut one look at this sleek-looking coupe and we think that's about to change. Thanks to a repaint about three years ago, t's very clean and the dark green finish is pretty close to code R Ivy Green, hich was on the menu for 1965. There's also a striking similarity to a certain fastback driven by Steve McQueen, ut let's focus on this coupe's true merits. The paint is quite nice, ut not perfect, o you won't hesitate to drive it every chance you get, et at the same time everybody will stop to admire this car and ask you what color it is. The finish is two-stage urethane, o it should look this good forever with just a modicum of care and the gaps are better than most early Mustangs that have led hard lives. The trim was also refreshed or replaced during the restoration, nd both bumpers, he stainless window surrounds, nd the pony grille are all in excellent condition. It's kind of nice to see a V8 Mustang that hasn't been given the Shelby treatment or even GT fog lamps. An understated black interior is a pleasing contrast and a classic combination, nd it is indeed the car's original arrangement. Again, t's a lot of fun to see a coupe with things like a console and a 4-speed, omplete with Hurst shifter, hile the rest is almost completely stock. The main gauges show bright, lear markings and shiny chrome accents, o the dash has surely been freshened and the chrome switchgear is mostly original stuff that looks good. The original radio is in the center of the dash, ut it's an AM unit, o if you're going to drive this car, n upgrade might be in the cards. The back seat looks almost completely unused and the trunk is very tidy and includes all the correct plaid mats, lus a full-sized spare tire and styled steel wheel and a steel wheel under a matching plaid cover. With Fords of this vintage, here's really no way to say conclusively that the engine is "numbers matching," but it definitely looks like factory-issue under the hood and this is a real A-code car. The 4-barrel 289 makes great noises and its bubbly, ouncy idle unwinds into a wonderful tenor wail as speed increases, o it's a joy to run through the gears. The chrome air cleaner dominates the engine bay, ut there's correct Ford Blue engine paint on the block and simple painted up top with reproduction decals. A shock tower brace and Monte Carlo bar add noticeable strength to the front end, worthwhile upgrade on any Mustang. There's also a new power brake booster for the discs up front. Underneath, t appears to be highly original although there's an oversized front sway bar and lowering springs that give it that awesome stance. For period-perfect rolling stock, ook no further than a set of styled steel wheels with fat 225/60/14 BFGoodrich rubber. This is a great-running coupe with a lot of desirable equipment. If you're a fan of driving, erhaps this lovely green Mustang is what you're looking for. Call today!
